Rhetorical Analysis/Group Discussion Questions: “The Definition of Terrorism”

Please answer the following questions individually in writing and then be prepared to share your answers in a small group discussion.

1. How does the author establish credibility? How would you determine ethos in terms of the author himself? How would you determine the ethos of the main part of the argument?

1. What do you think of the logos presented in the argument? In other words, how relevant, reliable and sufficient is the evidence provided with regard to the author’s main claim?

1. Is pathos (appeals to emotions, values, beliefs) used in the article to support the author’s main claim? If so, how is it used and is it effective? If not, why do you think it is missing and would it have made a difference to include a more clear appeal to emotions and values?
