Reflection Rubric

Name:

Grade:

This is a holistic rubric; you will be scored on how well you met the criteria of the assignment overall. The explanations below begin at the basic requirements to meet expectations and then to the explanation of above average and excellent work.

_____ C (70-79): This reflection reads more as a list of activities completed and lacks insight; it contains a thesis statement and mostly maintains focus throughout; it supports the thesis with specific details; it contains no major logical inconsistencies or contradictions; and the essay may include stylistic or mechanical errors, but not to the point that the essay is difficult to understand

_____ B (80-89): This reflection thoughtfully appraises, describes, and judges the response to the prompts; it focuses on developing insight to the student’s work with supporting details; it is cohesive from section-to-section; the project demonstrates control of situation-specific conventions

_____ A (90-100): This essay also demonstrates at least one of the following attributes of superior writing: especially complex or original thought, incorporation of in-text examples from student’s own work, especially sophisticated expression, excellent section-to-section transitions, especially compelling in purpose or recognizable in voice, especially thorough, seamlessly coherent, and relatively flawless in mechanics; reflection helped the instructor to gain insight on the specific choices the student made

_____ D or F If your essay does not meet the requirements for a C, you will earn a grade of D (60-69) or F (>60) based on how many of the requirements have not been met. It would be beneficial to schedule a conference with the instructor to help understand how to most effectively revise the project.
