Chosen Paper Topic:_________________________________________
I. Introduction (Let’s at least get a little started).
Possible ideas for the introduction are as follows: A short dynamic statistic, fact or interesting quote no more than 8-15 words long can be used), (Provide Impressive statistics, and strong point to catch the reader’s attention): Now remember you will need to transition this “hook” intro to your thesis statement. This hook should catch the attention of the reader and encourage them to read on.
|
Introduction Hook sentence: Place here an Introduction statement to start your paper. The best type of an introduction is using a statistic, fact or quote that catches reader’s attention concerning your topic (use in-text citation) This introduction statement is called a “Hook” statement because it “hooks” the reader. |
List Source Used as the hook: Use APA format for this academic source
|
Place the source for your “Hook in APA format: (see your reference area on Canvas Reference page for proper APA formating):
|
Thesis Statement (Usually the last sentence(s) in the introduction):
Tell what the overall paper will focus on and briefly summarize the main points in the paper in one statement

II. Body Organizing your paper (A paper may have a few or many main points; decide how many your paper will need) Sometimes, you might organize your points by what the references tell you might be significant points in your issue. Be prepared to let your sources lead you or if there is enough sources out there for your chosen topic, choose your points first and then find sources to support those points. This is how to start and make the bare bones of your paper. (Boxes will expand with writing).
READ THIS: Thoughts as you begin to think about your paper: Think about the main points of the paper which you have briefly addressed in the introduction. Main points should be driven from your sources. Find points that are consistently seen in many your academic sources. Then look for unique points and address those. Don’t keep pushing a point you cannot find a source for, this is where you waste time. Find where the sources lead you and be flexible. Also, you need to look at disputed points or contrasting points that may be interesting and provide you a more interesting discussion. One-sided papers that don’t address several pieces of information as to what the support on the other side says can be less balanced. “Just the facts” should lead your writing, not your opinions that are not thoroughly supported. You state something, you now need to discuss it and use the authority of published academic journals to back your points. This makes your paper credible.
Support with strong examples, details, and explanations using several sources to support each main point.
There is a place in an academic paper for some media sources. However, I would use them very minimally, possibly to provide information of a more current case example. However, media will not count as an academic source that is one of your sources in this paper. It should also be used very sparingly just for current information on an example (make sure your example is credible). We use to have more faith in the credibility of the media, but at this time, sources are not what they were in the past. Thus, you need to adjust and ensure you have credible academic sources. Also, placing a cited piece of information in your paper should not fit in like oil to water. A source should be buffered by showing how the cited material supports the main topic of the paragraph and then explaining how that source’s statement/paraphrase impacts the point being made.
. For this assignment, all sources must be different and used only one time.
