The above is an example of a Works Cited page with full citations. The Works Cited page must begin on the page following the last paragraph of the essay or research paper. It is not a separate document.  The student’s last name and page number are placed ½ inch from the top of the page on

the right-hand side of every page of an essay or research paper. Notice the page number 3 to the right of the student’s last name is a continuation of the essay pages which could have been written on the first two pages. When using Microsoft Word, use the “Insert” and “Page Number” tabs on the first page of the blank document to save and help

format. Subsequent pages of the essay will automatically include the last name and page number.

 The words “Works Cited” are centered one inch from the top of the page. Before doing

this, make sure the line spacing is set to “Double.” If there is only one citation on a page, title the page in the singular “Work Cited.”

 Each citation must include as much of following information as possible in the order

listed:

• Last name, first name of the author followed by a period. • The title of the article in quotation marks, including a period. • The date of the article (day, month, and year) followed by a period. • The name of the Website (italicized) followed by a period. Do not include the

domain (.com, .net, .edu, .gov, .org, and others). The name of the Website is usually found in the Website’s masthead (banner).

• The full Web page address (URL) without the protocol “https://” or the host www. • The date the student accessed the Web page followed by a period.

o NOTE: Textbook examples do not require the URL, but because EH 1302 is a

fully online course, the instructor, along with MLA Handbook guidance, requires the URL. The URL must be followed by a period.

Notice that the last citation on the preceding page, “10 Most Controversial College Mascots Ever,” has no author. It is alphabetized under the letter T because the numeral 10, when spelled out, is Ten. The remaining citations are listed in alphabetical order beginning with the author’s last name. If there is no author, begin the citation with the title of the article. When alphabetizing titles, ignore the articles (A, An, or The). “The Collapse of Obamacare,” no author, for example, would be alphabetized under C (Collapse), ignoring the article The.

 The second and subsequent lines of a citation must be indented ½ (0.5) inch. This is called a hanging indentation.
