How healthy is your workplace? My assessment scored 42% showing that the workplace was very unhealthy. This did not surprise me because my observation before the assessment indicated that the workplace was unhealthy. The workplace has been experiencing an increased lack of effective communication between the staff, management, and patients and deteriorating leadership. There has been an increase in employee incoordination, harassment, and bullying due to the organization's ineffective communication and leadership structures (Lemoine, Hartnell, & Leroy, 2019). There has been a decline in the level of collaboration, teamwork, and cooperation between employees and their supervisors in providing care to patients (Conner Black, 2019). Cases of intimidation and bullying have increased in the workplace, leading to a toxic environment that has caused a high turnover rate, especially in the nursing department. Recently, I had a disagreement with one of our physicians in the organization about a case of misdiagnosis that they carried on the patient. The physician reported me to my supervisor, who immediately took the physician's side without hearing my story. I was very upset with the supervisor's decision because it completely showed their incompetence in handling disagreements in the workplace. This was a case of failed leadership that needed to be looked into by our management (Iszatt‐White, & Kempster, 2019). The favouring of the physician and siding with them proved incivility in the organization that needs fixing to promote an environment conducive to all employees. Effective communication and authentic leadership would have saved the situation as the supervise would have taken time to understand the matter and apply the most effective solution that leaves both parties satisfied.
