September 11, 2007 / 2200 hours /Interview Colton Hebner.

I met with Colton Hebner in the barrack's recreation room regarding this interview. Colton Hebner is Brent Smith's roommate and it was described by Colton Hebner that they had been roommates for the past several weeks. Colton Hebner described how he has been in the military for a total of five years and has known Brent Smith during the past two years. Colton Hebner described how he had knowledge that Brent Smith was going through divorce procedures and that is why he was ordered to move into the barracks by his chain-of-command regarding a domestic dispute on or about July 2007. Colton Hebner described how he wakes-up at 0530 every morning and remains in the room until 0600 hours.

Colton Hebner stated that he was in his room asleep when on or about September 10, 2007 approximately 2340 hours, he heard Brent Smith enter the room and changed from his military clothing into civilian attire. Colton Hebner described how Brent Smith received a phone call while he was in the room and Colton Hebner believes the caller was a female. Colton Hebner stated that once Brent Smith had changed clothing, Brent Smith had left the room. Colton Hebner described how he noticed that Brent Smith had placed his cell phone on the phone charger and left the room without his cell.

Colton Hebner described how he awakened at 0530 on September 11 , 2007 and Brent Smith wasn't in the room. Colton Hebner described how he left the room at 0600 hours for physical fitness (PT) formation and Brent Smith was not present in the room. Colton Hebner described how he returned to the room at 0635 and observed Brent Smith asleep in his bunk. Colton Hebner stated that he didn't want to disturb Brent Smith so he left the room.

Colton Hebner described how when he returned to the third floor, the same floor the room is located at, he noticed that Brent Smith had exited the latrine area and he was holding what appeared to be a wet Nascar soft cap. Colton Hebner described how he asked Brent Smith about his wet hat and Brent Smith explained how he had to wash it because it got muddy overnight. Colton Hebner stated that approximately 1135 hours on September 11, 2007; he overheard Brent Smith tell his divorce attorney (Brad Carter) that Tracy Smith had retrieved the Ruger 9mm pistol from him several weeks ago.

From phone records, it was determined that Brent Smith received a phone call from Michelle Larsen at 2337 hours. Agents with Department of Defense Investigative Services (DCIS) had interviewed Michelle Larsen and Lindsey Brook regarding Brent Smith's alibi and discovered that Brent Smith had contacted Michelle Larsen (911 dispatcher at Fort Campbell) and asked her to include Lindsey Brook, to lie to investigators regarding this investigation. lt was noted through Brent Smith's cell phone records that he had contacted Michelle Brook on September 11, 2007 2107 hours asking her to tell investigators that they were together from September 10 thru September 11 2007, 0100 hours. Brent Smith had placed this call while I and Det. Gilllingham were interviewing Colton Help. See attach DCIS report regarding their interviews.
