“Life as a teen”

Every chance I get,

I use it to look at the trends,

I do not pay attention to issues that are political,

Neither do I associate myself with issues that are economical,

Rather I tend to take a liking in everything that I can impact a difference on,

As a teen,

My brain is considered poor.

They make people suffer and call it a victorious win,

Nevertheless, who am I to stand in between?

I post about ridiculous things happening in the society,

And people call it crap,

Whereas a singer sings, the ABCs and they call it rap,

They say I lack solid grounds to blame the government,

While they continue feasting like hounds in their big tents,

Communities are in lack while leaders grab and tuck,

Politics is no longer about the livelihood of citizens,

Politicians have turned into farmers changing us into herded hens,

Snakes have left the forest and managed to book mansions?

Misguided, we selected hyenas to guard goats,

Now they are feasting on our throats,

The elected have selected themselves, earthly gods,

Making electors their servants in their own compounds,

News have turned into horror stories,

Filled with woes and cries,

However, no one heeds to such calls,

Even though all that happens is seen and heard,

The awakening is feared, and all planned actions have been cleared.

I do not believe in the Messiah,

I do not believe in running away to another land,

I might be young but am not giving up my land,

Where are the so-called heroes?

Why do we suffer from issues that had been foretold?

What happened to their remedies of gold?

Who will stand out and be bold,

Who will save us from our very own hold?

Where do we run to, to restore the old?

Why don’t politicians care about the people who elect them?

When you elect them, they mind about their families?

They forget about the people who gave them powers

Why should we go for elections in every five years?

I therefore decided to mind my business

This people cannot put food on your table

It is wise for people to depend on themselves

Forgetting the politicians should be prioritized

The politicians get power to steal

They have turned public resource into their personal assets

This has increased the poverty rates in the country

Our children are frequently chased out of schools

They get home to face hunger

Our people are dying on daily basis

Health care services have been deteriorated

Why do people steal money meant to improve the health of the people?

It is our role and rise and oppose these acts

The country is milked dry by the hungry leaders

They bring up projects for them to increase corruption

The money set aside to complete the project is stolen

The country is becoming a dumping site of incomplete projects

Why do we have to suffer in our own land?

Public debts have increased

The government is borrowing in every month

Should we run away from our land?

I will stand firm to the end

I know the country will be liberated from the hungry people

A time is coming when people will stand against such leadership

Our children will never suffer again

Public resources will be utilized

Public health care services will be improved

And the electorate will be empowered

Such times will never come easily

We should be up to oppose the people in power

The leaders should be caring enough

They should enhance equity in their actions

Why don’t they care about our wellbeing despite having given them the power?

My poetry comes from the life experiences that the government was exposing us, citizens, too, like the oppression and failure to fulfill its mandate to its people. The specific things that I used to generate the idea were the life experiences which was full of misery. I moved from those original snippets of writing to a poetry idea to the poetry itself by carrying out a lot of research about poetry writing. The discourse community work speaks to the government, and the subject issue that might work to contribute to within that discourse community is reliving the citizen the pain of the being oppressed. My work could add the various ways that the government should put in place to curb the problem mentioned in the poem.

The significant revisions I made in my work were highlighting the various themes shown in the poem, for instance about the oppression and bringing the whole idea in a better state. The harmonization of the concept was another piece that I did revise on. I hoped to streamline the paper into more fabulous ways through making it easy to be read and bringing the ideas in a more transparent state — the style and outlining the various instances that are not good and are taking place in the community. I was trying to bring the bigger picture of society and how the government could solve it. There are various vocabularies that I have learned and acquired new skills in understanding the community in a more comprehensive way and different styles of applying while making this poem.

My writing process work for me was the best because of the various information that was being shared in the poem. Some of the challenges that I faced were the organization of the poem and styles. There were no risks, and I learned how to use the vocabularies and themes in the poem. The specific revision would be making the form and dictionaries look outstanding.
