EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The plans for a walk-in shelter for adult single women began when I started working for a homeless shelter for single adult men and women. I noticed that there were more sleeping accommodations for men than there were for women. Having less sleeping accommodations for women was such an unspoken issue that Connecticut Access Network (211) had and continues to have a waiting list during certain times of the year. But where were these single women suppose to go until their names came up on the waiting list? No one had an answer, and this is when I came up with the idea for Woman’s Worth Walk-In Shelter.
ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION
Organization Background
The idea for Woman’s Worth Walk-In Shelter, came about in the winter of 2016. New Haven CAN (Coordinated Access Network) had a waiting list of 76 single homeless women seeking shelter in the greater New Haven CT area, but there were no available beds. A female client angrily stated, “well where am I supposed to go tonight?” there was no response. I realized that there is no waiting list for single homeless men in New Haven because there are walk-in shelters that exist for them. I thought to myself wouldn’t it be amazing if I could open a walk-in shelter for single homeless women and thus the journey began.

Product/Service Description
Definition of Product/Service
Woman’s Worth Walk-In Shelter is a temporary emergency residence for homeless single women, 21 years of age and older. This emergency residence will provide women a safe surrounding from the devastating effects of homelessness such as assaults, rapes, below temperature weather and other unfortunate circumstances. In the city of New Haven alone, there are multiple emergency shelters for families and walk-in emergency shelters for men, but an emergency walk-in shelter for single adult women does not exist. Statics say that women will be offered a place to stay for the night before men will be offered but at what mental, physical or emotional cost? Let’s pay the cost for the women of the world to have an emergency walk-in shelter and show these women that they are worth it.
Requirements
Any single woman age 21 and over who is literally homeless or
· Who has been discharged from another inpatient facility or hospital and are homeless
· Who has been referred by another facility or agency because of homelessness or full capacity
· Whom has been displaced from another city, state or country
· Whom walks in off the street for emergency shelter for the night

MARKETING
Marketing Overall Size
*This budget is based on a yearly estimate of 1,557.00 single women being homeless in the state of Connecticut yearly.
Target Market
Homeless, single women from the age of 21 and older. Facilities such as hospitals and clinics, agencies such as DSS (Dept. of Social Services), and CAN (CT Access Network (211)). Women’s Coalition, DMHAS (Dept. of Mental Health & Addiction Services), SAMHSA (Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration), Women Consortium, etc., and most of all the nearby communities.
Potential Market Risk
Personal Liability - For any small business owner, one lawsuit could potentially result in the loss of a business, or worse – the loss of personal finances and assets.
Insufficient Funds - As many banks are reluctant to lend money to sole proprietors who are lacking a proven track record of success, it can be extremely difficult for an entrepreneur to come up with the necessary funding to start a business. Even if enough funding is obtained for start-up, it is also important to have some extra cash as a cushion, should any unforeseen troubles occur.
Poor Planning - Too often, the excited and passionate entrepreneur becomes caught up in his or her vision without setting up a business plan that can turn that vision into a reality. It is imperative that a plan be put in place consisting of the company’s goals, potential problems and solutions, a marketing plan, and more.
Overly Ambitious Ideals - There is such a thing as growing too much, too soon. A number of small businesses that possess a high potential for success end up going under due to overexpansion. To avoid this pitfall, the entrepreneur must have the resources and funding that is necessary for growth.

There were 667 individuals that went unsheltered in 2016. How many of them were men and how many of them were women? Research doesn’t show how many of them were men because there are walk-in shelters for me so the masses figure that these men are living out on the street by choice. However, the masses do not know show out of that 667 ratio, how many of them are women. Women don’t matter unless children are involved, and society don’t want to be held accountable or say homeless individual women exist because there is no walk-in shelter for these women. Woman’s Worth Walk-In Shelter would be the first of its kind. Women’s Worth Walk-In Shelter would be a safe transitional place for women to go until a bed becomes available in bigger facility (such as Columbus House).
Barriers
The only barrier that I could think of is funding. I don’t have my own money, so I would have to figure out how to apply for grants. Network with other organizations and coalitions to see if they would donate to my cause. A lot of people don’t want to acknowledge the fact that there is a waiting list for homeless women to get into a temporary shelter. However, I say if you have a bathroom for men and women, why not have a walk-in emergency shelter for both men and women. There is a family bathroom for women with children, even single men with children can use the family bathroom and the same goes for family shelters, so why not fund a single woman emergency walk-in shelter.
