SECOND ONE (WE FOUND A ARTICLE FOR THIS PROJECT BEFORE)
“Zhong, H., Li, H., Zhang, X., Zhang, X., Zhang, Y., & Zhao, J. (2022). Childhood maltreatment and impulsivity in offenders: Examining the mediating roles of self-compassion and cognitive reappraisal. Child Abuse & Neglect, 133, 105847. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.chiabu.2022.105847

This study investigated the relationship between childhood maltreatment, impulsivity, self-compassion, and cognitive reappraisal in 2643 offenders. The results showed that childhood maltreatment indirectly affected offenders' impulsivity through both self-compassion and cognitive reappraisal, with the mediating effect of self-compassion being stronger than that of cognitive reappraisal. Sexual abuse was found to indirectly affect impulsivity through self-compassion, while other types of childhood maltreatment were associated with impulsivity through both self-compassion and cognitive reappraisal. The study suggests that reinforcing practical training in self-compassion and cognitive reappraisal, especially the former, may facilitate the reduction of impulsive symptoms among offenders who have experienced childhood maltreatment. This research emphasizes the importance of addressing childhood maltreatment and promoting positive protective factors in prison interventions for offenders with impulsivity.” THIS IS THE ARTICLE WE ARE GONNA SUMMARY.
Empirical article summary & critique:
Length:
The paper should be 4-5 double-spaced pages, Times New Roman 12-font. APA format is NOT required. However the reference citation (which should be on the last page of your paper) must be in APA format. Here is a great weblink on how to cite in APA format. It is from the Purdue Online Writing Lab. http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/
(Links to an external site.)
Below are examples of how you would cite your article in your reference section.
I.e., First author’s last name, first initial. middle initial., & second author’s last name, first
initial. middle initial (year of publication). Title of article. Name of journal, volume #,
page numbers.
E.g., Coyne, S.M., Warburton, W.A., Essig, L.W., & Stockdale, L.A. (2018). Violent video games, externalizing behavior, and prosocial behavior: A five-year longitudinal study during adolesccence. Developmental Psychology, 54, 1868-1880.
I.e., First author’s last name, first initial. middle initial., & second author’s last name, first
initial. middle initial (year of publication). Title of article. Name of journal. Advance online publication.
weblink.
E.g., Ober, T. M., Brodsky, J. E., Lodhi, A., & Brooks, P. J. (2021, June 17). How Did Introductory Psychology Students Experience the Transition to Remote Online Instruction Amid the COVID-19 Outbreak in New York City?. Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in Psychology. Format of your paper and in your own words (at least as much as possible) :
6 pts. 1) Give a brief statement of the purpose of the study (what questions were the researchers interested in, why did they conduct this study?)
5 pts. 2) Give a summary of the hypotheses (i.e., prediction(s), what did the researchers expect to find in their study?)
8 pts. 3) Describe the methods used in the study (i.e., who were the participants, what sort of materials were used…interviews, self-report measures, observations, brain scans, etc…, how was the study conducted)
8 pts. 4) Describe the results (this section is full of statistical terminology which I don’t expect you to understand. You can skip to the Discussion section which summarizes the findings of the study)
15 pts. 5) Critique the study (e.g., what were some good aspects of the study, bad aspects, what
would you change, how could the study be improved, could there be another explanation
for the results, etc.). It’s not enough to say “I really like/did not like the study.” Tell me why you thought so. This section should be approximately ONE PAGE in length.
3 pts. 6) Citation of the article that you critiqued (see above example) – you should only have ONE citation for your paper.
Please write as much of your paper in your own words! Your paper needs to be in essay format. Do not separate your paper with headings for each section. Plagiarism will not be tolerated and it will result in a zero on your paper.

Two classical social psychological studies conducted in the 1960's and early 1970's truly tested human behavior under extreme situations. One of the studies was conducted by Dr. Stanley Milgram (the obedience/shock study) and the other famous one was conducted by Dr. Philip Zimbardo (the Stanford Prison study).
Please read about the Milgram's "obedience" study and Zimbardo's prison study in the chapter on Social Psychology (Chapter 14).
Here is a weblink to read/watch more about the Stanford prison study.

After reading and/or watching these experiments, discuss why they were so controversial. Were any ethical guidelines violated? If yes, what were some of them? Do you think that these studies were valuable to society, and should they have been conducted at all?
As a side note, several years ago I attended the Western Psychological Association conference and I watched the 2015 Hollywood version of the prison study called "The Stanford Prison Experiment." Dr. Zimbardo was there with his wife, Christina Maslach, to answer questions after the film screening. Out of curiosity, did any of you watch the film? If you did, what did you think?
It is also important to note that some researchers have devoted their research to focus on solutions, rather than highlighting the atrocities that human beings are capable of. For example, Dr. Ervin Staub has written many articles on genocide and the importance of peacemaking efforts. In 2014, he wrote an article in The Huffington Post called "Why People Help Strangers and Risk their Lives for Strangers?"

In the past several years, Dr. Zimbardo has been focused on the research topic of heroism.

So we know that humans are capable of kindness and compassion towards others. Here is another great article titled "Acts of Kindness: Why Helping Strangers is Good for You," which was published in 2017. Here is the weblink.

What are your thoughts about reading these articles and watching this video on kindness and helping others?
It is nice to know that research is not all based on studying "evil," but also how humans are "good" too!
Your answer should be approximately 1/2 page, single-spaced, and your response to a classmate's answer should be no longer than 1/2 page, single-spaced.
