STEPS is a private not-for-profit founded in 1983.

STEPS- offers inpatient and outpatient treatment for individuals with alcohol and/or substance addiction (STEPS - Apopka, FL | Rehab.com).

They have multiple outpatient treatment centers in Brevard, Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties but only one inpatient center in Orange county.

STEPS-Inpatient rehabilitation treatment is a women-based group only. The women demographics are Whites, Hispanics, and Blacks, but most of the population are whites.

The counselors at residential are all women of all ages and cultures. There is no male staff at residential, but I heard that will soon change.

Volunteer.

A retired woman used to own a substance abuse center, but now she volunteers her time at STEPS.

STEPS received both federal and state fundings

Central Florida Cares Health Systems (07/01/2021-06/30/2023).

Grants

Private donations

There's no reference for the percentage of funding they received, and no one in the office seems to know, plus its not public knowledge.

I did, however, find a subcontract between Central Florida Cares Health Systems and STEPS from July 1st, 2021, till June 30th, 2023, for the amount of $5,887,768.00

There's also a new grant for the (OUD) program, also known as Opiate Use Disorder Navigator. We receive some private donations as to Clothes, Hygiene Products, Holiday Presents, Phone cards, Technology.

The goal of STEPS is to provide behavioral change for their clients to facilitate responsible behaviors and lifestyles that benefit Florida’s community and society (STEPS Employee Handbook).

STEPS exemplifies those high ideals that support an environment focused on cooperation, teamwork, respect, and mutual understanding among all its programs (STEPS Employee Handbook).

Other Organizations in the community that address the same problem are:

Orlando Recovery Center

Fresh Start Ministries of Central Florida

Advanced Recovery Systems

Central Florida Treatment Centers

Sunshine Detox Orlando

WhiteSands Alcohol & Drug Rehab Orlando

Specialized Treatment Education & Prevention Services (STEPS)

Challenges they face in the community are:

COVID

Technology

Telecommunications services.

The agency refers clients to organizations outside for mental health counseling, methadone services, and other healthcare treatment.

They are trying to resolve those challenges by having to quarantine the ones affected with covid in one quarter and send employees home whenever they get affected; they are now trying to implement covid testing for their clients. They received technology donations that will install computers for their new OUD programs. Instead of phone cards, they give clients $2 worth of quarters to use the payphones to communicate with their family and friends.
