INTERVENTION LOGIC MODELS AND OUTCOME MEASUREMENT
Helen Petrakis is a family care giver and the burden on her increases when her husband, John’s mother suffers hip fracture. Helen has to take care of her alone since she doesn’t want to burden her children; Alec, Dmitra, and Athina. Helen and the husband are financially burdened when they have to pay for a caregiver for Magda, john’s mother. However, they do not want to burden or take assistance from their kids. She finally decides to let Alec live with her grandmother which turns out to be a disaster with Alec stealing from Magda to support his drug habit. An evidence based model to assess her is the cognitive behavioral therapy which is a common intervention applied to caregivers of dementia patients (National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, 2016). Since Helen has started displaying signs of dementia herself, the cognitive behavioral therapy is important.

The resources required in the implementation of the cognitive behavioral therapy model to know the needs of the client include the time for both the client and the therapist, educational awareness to Helen about dementia. The implementation also requires Helen to be committed for the success of the model (Lassell et al ., 2019). There is also the need for a facility that to conduct the process and it should also provide some level of comfort for the client to effect a trust relationship between the client and the therapist. Audio tapes and stationery are also required for the recording of sessions for better analysis.
Activities involved in the therapy sessions are counseling to get a better understanding of the client situation, administering of questionnaires to get client feedback, and the recording of sessions. There is also the review of the recorded sessions to get better understanding and insight into possibly overlooked evidence in the main session (Lassell et al ., 2019). The sessions are conducted in two-hour sessions that are conducted twice a week.
The expected outcomes of the model is to have Helen outline her view of the situation and states her challenges from her view as a multi-generational care giver in her family. It is also expected that at the end of the process, Helen would have provided a list of her desires concerning her situation. The outcomes can therefore help to provide a proper intervention method for her situation.

Inputs for the support group to help Helen cope with her stress and anxiety include funds to help her manage financial constraints, time for all the support group members, peers to share their experiences and how they managed the situation, volunteers to help Helen manage her responsibilities, and communication gadgets for Helen to get in touch with the peers. The funds can also be provided by her children who are working. The peers can help Helen deal with Alec’s addiction problem and also provide motivation and potential solutions for Helen. Support groups also help Helen feel less lonely and more loved by engaging with peers that understand her situation (Mayo Clinic, 2020).
Activities include helping Helen take care of Magda by the volunteers to help her relieve some pressure and stress. Education will help Helen understand better her situation and can also be administered to Helen’s family members to enable them understand Helen’s situation. There is also the checkup to monitor Helen’s progress. These activities are done in the weekly support group meetings and daily visits and care of Magda by volunteers.
A short term goal of the support group is to help Helen gain financial stability, removing Alec from Magda’s apartment and help her convince John about a supported living arrangement. The long term goals, however, are to enable Helen regain her proper mental health to be able to continue her care giving responsibilities. It is also a long term goal to help Helen learn better ways of care giving that do not involve stress and anxiety. Helen also wants a better care plan for Magda to relieve her of her stress regarding care for Magda. Volunteer help is also an intervention to help Helen recover from her back pains as a result of overworking and promotes her physical health in the long term.
Measuring the program outcomes, it is done by case basis where each problem is measured separately. Caregiver burden can be measured using the caregiver appraisal, Caregiver burden scale, caregiver distress scale and others. Anxiety can be measured on the Beck anxiety scale and brief system inventory. Subjective well-being can also be measured to gauge her satisfaction by the life satisfaction index and quality of life scale. Depressive symptoms can also be measured by Beck depression inventory and general health questionnaires. The outcome can also be measured by observation and feedback from group members and the therapists. Questionnaires can also be administered to get feedback from the client (Doyle et al., n.d.).
