How will you use what you learned about the correctional system to effect positive social
change as a private citizen and/or in your current or future role as a criminal justice
practitioner? Be specific.
How I might use what I have learned about the correctional system to effect positive
social change in my future possible role as criminal justice practitioner “Probation officer” to be
exact. The role of the probation officer could prove vital when it comes to recidivism, not only
do the officer monitors the offender they work with the offender as well in the hopes of
preventing them from committing any new crimes. The way that I really feel that you could
really serve the probationer and help them out the most is to build relationships with other
agencies and build a resource for them. When I worked as a case worker for the Salvation Army
and during my time I was able to ask questions from many people one of the questions was is why
you did what you did and the answer to me was because they did not have anything else to do.
I did learn a great deal of valuable information about corrections in this class although
criminal justice is not my major. I am pursuing a Human Services degree with the plans of
continuing through with my master’s in counseling
