Development of Review
1. Problem formulation – which topic or field is being examined and what are the components of it?
2. Literature search – find materials relevant to the subject or topic you plan to explore
Data evaluation – what literature makes a significant contribution to understanding the topic?
Analysis and interpretation – discuss the findings and conclusions of the included and necessary literature
Things to Consider
How many sources should you include? – 3-5 scholarly sources
What types of sources (books, journal articles, etc.)? – Stick to scholarly, for now
Use citations – start attempting those APA formats!
Include a Reference page
Must have an Introduction and Conclusion
Writing Your Lit Review
Include headings
Incorporate some brief summaries
Use evidence
Be selective – select only the most relevant and important points for your review.
Use quotes sparingly
Summarize and synthesize
Length
Utilize 3-5 sources in the 2-3 pages.
If you can’t review the literature on your topic in that page length, your topic is too narrow.
