Policing Plan

 Part 1:

The following proposal is to address something that has been plaguing the community along time and that is the use of racial profiling. In recent news there have been just simple traffic stops that have ended being a deadly encounter; these encounters are extremely high for black people. When traffic stops happen that involves a minority there is a high chance that person will end up in jail or dead because of the tension of the encounter (Choudhury, 2019).  The proposed solution that I have to address the problem is that each department hire social psychologists that will be able to promote a positive policing department that will no longer look to racial profile, but will promote a society where people are being treated better along with more of a fairer treatment. I proposed that this should be implemented and a permanent ongoing plan of action (Glasser, 2015).

The purpose of this proposal is to be able to display a mission statement that reflects respect for everyone regardless of their color or the background of a person. I propose the following mission statement “To uphold the law as a member of this police department while showing members of this community the respect that is due regardless of race, creed or color while enforcing the law in a fair and equal manner”. The mission stated that I just proposed will be the basis of the department and the purpose is to be able to get to the following vision statement “To be the agency the community trusts, respects and show their support bringing back the integrity for law enforcement”. Challenges that I foresee that may be a problem is that you already have officers that are there may think that this is taking away from their job by restricted how they police then there are people that have had bad experiences with officers in the past and no matter what they always feel that every officer is bad and when coming in contact with a law enforcement officer there is not any mutual respect. Strategies that could be done is to invite the community to come to the office and have the classes with the officers as a transparency. Work with a community leader and have cookouts for the community and the officers as a way of getting to know each other out of uniform.

 Part 2:

The plan will consist of the following first it will be someone that could be elected from the community and their role will be to be the person that the community will be able to express their concerns too. The Community spokes person will be the one that could go the police department and take the concerns that were expressed to the from the community not only just to the police, but this person will be task with expressing to the community of things that they will need to take responsibility for as well to make things work.

The next person will consist of a person of authority from the local police either it be the chief or sheriff or the person that is directly 2nd in command this person will be task with executing the necessary training on things that are being expressed to them from the community like awareness. The third will be an outside agency that does not have any ties to the community and their function is to be the one that if there was ever an issue that cannot be resolved by talks or action this person will be task with making the decision on what actions that need to go forward as a way of resolving the issue known as a mediator.

The strategies that I would use for outreach is food everyone loves food and especially if the food is free, with that being said officers from the local agencies and volunteers from the community could meet up and put together a plan to go out and pass out flyers to have a community cookout. The cookout could also be posted on Face Book throughout the different neighborhood swaps in the area. The idea is to have the police and the community to come together in a relax atmosphere.

During the time of the cookout this is where people of the community as well as the police department could express their concerns about issues that they see going on and each one could take notes and pick another date to come back together again to give time to develop some solutions that could be presented during the next community cookout. Which will be a on going thing to be proactive and preventative for issues that may be presented later this will bring closeness between the community and the officers.
