WK 1 & WK 5 DISCUSSIONS
WK 5 INITIAL POST (N. MCMILLAN)
I would not pursue this new strategy.
I see no issue with marketing to a different consumer market. Businesses that make their products more widely available and potentially affordable is a good thing for the company, the consumer, and the economy. The issue of a credit policy without credit check has the potential to work. This would be a valid way to do business when someone needs to borrow money or needs a line of credit. This is an extremely risky market in terms of money. Though the number of single parents is large. It may not yield enough profit because some single parents may be struggling with their finances because of their limited monetary resources. They may not be able to afford the extremely high interest rates though they are allowed to purchase on credit. If they are allowed to purchase on credit, there is a risk of bad debt which will lead to more losses to the retailer. The large number of consumers will not contribute to the profitability of the retailer because of the consumer's lower income and financial instability. Hopefully there will not be any deceitful advertising happening where the consumer is expected to ask whether the information provided and the claims are true (Saylor, Chapter 12).
