I chose the social issue and institution concerning the government and its misuse of power for control and monetary gain. According to the Department of Justice website, “No employee shall use his public office for his own private gain” (Misuse of Position and Government Resources, 2018). One explanation as to why they are misusing their power could be because they are afraid of how it would be on the bottom. My meaning is that so many people in this country suffer from poverty and homelessness because of the government. There are so many people in the government, city and state offices who could do better for the people; but they choose to build more parking garages, prison and leave so many buildings unoccupied. I understand that most of these places provide jobs for some but what about a safe place to live. Where I’m from we had city and state officials taking bribes and vacations instead of helping the people. I this country can do without another rocket in space and build something for the homeless and provide jobs for them inside the facility so they can save to get their own. You must build a brand-new rocket with every launch. It cost about 60 million per launch. Now I’m using my sociological imagination to put things I would do into play. My essay topic has my level of confidence through the roof. Some may disagree but that is why life has choices. Some people choose to do wrong while others wonder why they do it. I would like to hold meetings and allow others to share my views and do what we can to help change how the government does things. If this country and government is of people, and by the people, and for the people, (Lincoln, 1863) then why doesn’t the peoples input matter? A quote from my humanitarian book goes as followed, “I can’t solve world hunger, but I can feed someone today.” (LaFasto & Larson, 2012). Just some food for thought.
