SECTION 1: ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL INTEGRITY

Academic integrity and writing

Writing in nursing involves all the reports or assignments given by the nursing educators to student-nurses and submitted either in hard copies in person or through the softcopy electronically through academic platforms (Stoesz & Yudintseva, 2018). Nurses, particularly under the Masters of Science in Nursing MSN, are required to write for them to qualify as MSN practitioners. Writing involves simple to complex assignments such as short assignments that can be individualized or as a group assignment, research paper, and complex papers such as dissertations. Most academic writing involving the MSN program involves reviewing previous from other academicians in various articles on the internet.

The integrity is connected to writing since the students in nursing are not supposed to copy previous works from other researchers. Copying previous work from other people and indicating it is yours is academic dishonesty and is referred to as plagiarism (Nagaraju, 2018). The students of higher learning, particularly in the MSN program, must support their original work that is not copied from other scholars. Thus students are supposed to present their original work. Since most of the research involves reading other people's work, the students of higher learning are supposed to quote or paraphrase the work and attribute the writing to their original owners through references and in-text citation. Students in higher learning institutions are supposed to avoid academic dishonesty by reading the previous work from scholars and use the same idea to write their papers without copying. MSN students in nursing after graduating play a critical in the nursing field by becoming psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioners (PMHNP.

Professional practice and scholarly ethics

Professional practice involve strict adherence to the code of conduct and professionalism. Nurses are supposed to be aggressive in collaborating with others healthcare workers to ensure the quality delivery of services to patients. Nurses are also required to manage complex situations and crises based on the knowledge they acquired in nursing school. On the other hand, a nurse must adhere to veracity, autonomy, fidelity, accountability, nonmaleficence, beneficence, and justice principles that guide the healthcare professional (Ingham-Broomfield, 2017).

Based on the relationship between professional practice and scholarly ethics, nurses with academic dishonesty cases will transfer the same habit to the actual health setting. Nurse with cases of academic dishonesty is not competent. Most of the time, they cannot master the critical concepts applicable in the actual nursing practice. Since such people are not comfortable asking for clarification from other nurses to not expose their incompetence, they provide questionable service by providing wrong prescriptions to patients.

Nurses with cases of academic dishonesty may not be competent in providing culture-based care since they might not have adequately mustered the courses from the nursing school (Bultas, Schmuke, Davis & Palmer, 2017). Therefore, they might be healthcare professionals who encourage racial discrimination among the patients and other nurses. Since such healthcare workers do not believe in incompetence to acquire achievements, they might use bribery to be promoted in their jobs.

SECTION 2: STRATEGIES FOR MAINTAINING INTEGRITY

Academic work

Due to advancements in technology, I will use most of the technological tools to check my academic papers' integrity before submitting them for marking. The main tools that I will use include the use of Turnitin and Safe Assign. To maintain high academic integrity in academic as an MSN student, I will be required to use the paraphrasing technique when using ideas from previous research work. Paraphrasing is the act of using someone's idea and putting the ideas into one own idea. I will use the paraphrasing technique and cite the work appropriately. I will ensure I am not using the exact words from the previous work done by other scholars. To ensure high integrity, I will subject my assignment to the Turnitin tool to note where there is similarity and make the necessary adjustments before submitting my assignment to the concerned professor or the lecturer.

Safe Assign tool effectively identifies similarities between the work to be submitted and other previously submitted work by other students. I will use the tool to check whether there is any similarity between my paper and other students. In case of any similarity, I will ensure I make necessary adjustments before submitting my work. The strategy will enhance my academic integrity through professional ethics. I will be able to improve my competence by acquiring nursing knowledge when paraphrasing the work from other scholars.

The strategy will enable me to maintain a clean record of academic integrity since I will plagiarize work from my professors at no given time. The strategy of paraphrasing my academic paper will enable me to acquire more knowledge in nursing since I will be acquiring major concepts by internalizing the main ideas before putting them on the paper using my own words. Additionally, in terms of performance, I will attain high academic grades since I will always submit my papers with the ranges of acceptable similarity set by the nursing school.

Professional work

Nursing, unlike other professionals, requires high integrity because a healthcare worker is dealing with people's life where some are critically ill, and any case of dishonesty can cost the life of a patient. Integrity in nursing is the quality of having moral uprightness or strong adherence to moral principles that guide the nursing profession. There is various strategy intend to use to enhance my integrity in the workplace. First, I will ensure that I use the emerging technologies to offer patients evidence-based services. First, I will use Electronic Health Records(EHR) and cloud computing technology to gather, analyze, store, and retrieve evidence-based history before offering any service to the patients.

The information of the technological tools will minimize the cases of medical errors and duplicate medications to patients. Secondly, I intend to identify a role model in the nursing workplace and consult him/ her in case of a challenge during the care provision. I will consider elderly nurses who have been in the profession for a long period. I also familiarize myself with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability of 1996 act (HIPAA) to ensure the safety of patients from theft and hacking by black hat hackers (Cohen & Mello, 2018). Thus, I will enroll in additional technological courses that will enhance my skills in protecting the integrity data shared from one healthcare worker to the other electronically.

Additionally, I intend to attend various workshops and seminars to acquire additional knowledge on the state nursing practice act. Through the knowledge of the act, I will adhere to and respect standards of practice, nursing code of ethics, and prescription authority rules and regulations. For instance, I will not refill or prescribe medications to suspicious patients if I doubt they need them. The honesty will enable me to avoid the opioid crisis, major medical errors, and clinical lawsuits.
