technology is required to offer IT-related infrastructure in the continents of America, Asia, and Europe because of its global footprint. Although consistency is be-
coming more difficult to maintain and the physical IT resources are becoming too cumbersome to manage. Because of this, the CIO is considering the implementation of virtualization technologies provided by Microsoft including Microsoft system centers and Microsoft Windows servers, thus the chief information officer requested the generation of a report discussing the many features that Microsoft offers to transform the current physical IT data centers into virtual computing resources.
Implementing Microsoft virtualization technologies and the organs preparedness
The IT infrastructure layout is a hodgepodge of legacy infrastructure; this was acquired through numerous acquisitions of several organs in the storage industry hence the current IT organization preparedness is in order. Although these legacy infrastructures are aging and they need to be updated soon, most especially
since the legacy servers support applications that have been in production for almost a decade. For example, in Asia the IT infrastructure is mostly legacy servers
that are about seven years old, these servers were put into production to productivity applications and house manufacturing. The cost for the license of these legacy applications is being analyzed to see whether they can be dropped and the data transferred to current WesternDisc enterprise resource planning applications that are in the ERP. It is possible to convert the current physical data centers into virtualized computing resources since many IT-related components are possible candid- ates for dropping or upgrading altogether. Microsoft licensing of virtualized environments The Microsoft licensing of windows servers provides flexibility de-
pending on what IT objective may be. For example, what will be the predominant OS for the VMs? Or will the virtual machines operating systems be a mix-
ture of Linux and Windows operating systems? Additionally, the selection of management tools for managing the virtualized environments will be crucial be-
cause management tools provide automation for the consistency of many VM creation functions and also monitors the virtualized environment, allowing consistency in automation of patch management and offer backup options (Eramo & Lavacca, 2019). Explanation of Microsoft windows server 2012 R2 Microsoft provides
two license versions for this windows server, they include the standard edition and datacenter edition, there’s also a standalone product containing only the Windows hypervisor, virtualization components, and a driver model which is a free edition called Hyper-V server. Every windows edition supports Hyper-V which is a Microsoft type-1 hypervisor offering, each Hyper-V server is known as a host. The features of each edition include; the datacenter edition is effective for environments
where the predominant operating system for virtual machines deployed uses the windows server operating system. The main benefit of this version is supporting the creation of numerous licensed windows server virtual machines. This implies that however many windows server virtual machines the underlying physical hard-
ware can support will be licensed automatically thus, there need to purchase additional licenses for every windows server virtual machine. This version also sup-
ports clustering at either the host of virtual machine level enabling a higher level of availability for hosts and mobility of guest’s virtual machines within the hosts. The standard edition is efficient in environments that are lightly virtualized and do not need numerous virtual machines with the windows server operating sys-
tem. This standard edition is limited since it only supports the creation of two licensed windows server virtual machines on the host but users can still create as many Non-Windows server virtual machines the underlying physical hardware can support like Linux based virtual machines, however, users should buy any operating sys- tem licenses individually for virtual machine operating systems that require them. The Hyper-V server edition works best for environments that do not need any
windows server operating system virtual machines since the Hyper-V server is a free version of Microsoft server and offers the creation of zero licensed windows server virtual machines on the host. This edition is suitable for non-windows server virtual machine environments including virtual desktop infrastructures and Linux (Lownds et al., 2017).

Explanation of Microsoft windows system center 2012R2 Microsoft system center was developed for managing large virtualized environments this is because a virtu- alized environment is very complex and overwhelming to manage. This product is installed on a windows server which can a virtual machine or a physical server.
It is offered in two editions that mirror the window server license scheme namely the SC standard edition and the SC datacenter edition. Both editions sup-
port up to two physical server processors. The SC standard version supports up to 2 OSE per license same as windows server standard edition. The SC datacen-
ter version supports numerous operating system environments per license like the windows server datacenter edition. Microsoft recommends the purchase of the datacenter edition to expand virtualization resource management accordingly since virtual components in virtual environments keeps growing through business ex- pansion and also the datacenter edition has distinct components which clients can choose and pick the components to deploy in their virtualized environments.
Windows Server 2012R2 supports all types of shared storage to store the virtual components managed by the hosts including the storage devices like SAN, NAS among others. It has several benefits such as can be employed as a centralized backup solution, it's also centralized for the highest utilization of available storage space, allows easy migration of virtual machines between host groups or hosts. Shared storage consideration, building HA and redundancy into shared storage
NAS and SAS devices have HA capabilities installed in them by their manufacturers, particularly with redundant hardware controllers and multi-path connections to internal components (Xiao et al., 2018). I recommend building the HA shared storage using clustered shared spaces to create resilience RAID storage pools managing the disc drives as windows SoFS distributes multipath connections to various hosts. Storage spaces in conjunction with SoFS can be clustered for HA capabilities
then shared with many hosts since HA clusters have built-in-redundancy in that if one SoFS server dies another one can take over the service as the file system re- mains highly available to all connected hosts. The redundancy of SoFS cluster nodes and JBODs are built due to the enclosures making these storage appliances
a cost-effective, viable option for shared storage with NAS and SAS-like capabilities. Another concept is trying this model and seeing it can be built with existing West- ernDisk hardware. Windows Azure cloud services The Windows Azure platform is created on 3 major building blocks namely window azure data services, com-
pute, and App services. The window azure compute is where virtual machines reside and are created it is the core platform of azure. It also offers several
models of cloud service like IaaS and PaaS. The windows azure data services offer storage data services apart from Host VHD storage for virtual machines. It
provides two types of additional storage tables perfect for NoSQL and binary large objects that store any type of data. The data stored here is either geo-replic-
ated across azure datacenters or replicated 3 times in the same datacenter, also the service can act as a backup site for the disaster recovery process. Clients are
provided with data export and import capabilities of their data (Zhao et al., 2019). Windows Azure Hybrid cloud capability The windows azure hybrid cloud cap-
ability is a great advantage because it can link a public cloud with a private cloud. For example, westerndisk can build their private cloud to maintain control and
meet their needs of the infrastructure. An azure IaaS public cloud can be linked to the WesternDisk private cloud to act as a temporary additional computing re-
source when required thus making up a hybrid cloud deployment model (Odun-Ayo et al., 2017). Hyper-V private cloud and Windows Azure IaaS
When combining a private cloud, the deployment of Microsoft’s azure IaaS offers WesternDisk immediate access to Azure’s data center environments thus, redu-
cing the larger CAPEX costs needed. Conclusion
I recommend virtualizing the current physical data centers into virtual computing resources. Microsoft Windows servers 2012R2 is a viable solution that can
provide the virtualization engine that will power virtualized components and combining it with windows server 2012R2 will create a WesternDisk private cloud allow- ing on-demand provisioning and it will also help reduce IT-related tasks. Besides that, it will help reduce OPEX and CAPEX costs by increasing the efficiency of ex-
isting physical hardware to maximize the ROI and probably extend their life. Thus, it is important to embrace this technology in our organizations.
