Wk 4 discussion (L. Knartzer)

R.U. Kidding has noticed some improper business dealings from his own company, Rocket Man Enterprises. By overcharging a client in the performance of work subcontracted out, Rocket Man is engaging in fraudulent activity. This is a breach of the presumed contract held between client and contractor. There are many factors that pose an ethical dilemma for R.U. By not raising the question he could be potentially implicated in any wrongdoing the company finds themselves  a part of, as well as be perceived as compliant. This company if found out could be held liable and have a lawsuit potentially filed against them.

If a client is of importance and their patronage matters, this would irretrievably damage the credibility of Rocket Man. All future dealings would be in jeopardy due to their lack of honesty.

R.U. is in a difficult position however. If he raises the question to superiors there might be retribution or reprisal due to his attention to this matter. This reprisal could include legal action. R.U. must ensure that his claim is one hundred percent valid and backed by concrete facts. Seeking legal counsel beforehand is something that would be wise to do.(Our Successful Whistleblower Cases, 2021)

Accusing a company of misconduct is not something to be taken lightly and any employee who does this needs to feel they would be protected against lawsuits or termination of employment. There are options that R.U. has, including reporting anonymously to the Security Exchange Commission, (Our Successful Whistleblower Cases, 2021).

The stakeholders involved in Rocket Man Enterprises include R.U. Kidding himself and those who have invested in the company, such as the board of directors, shareholders, CEO and  any other officers of the company. R.U. himself as comptroller has a significant position that would give him access to CFO or other management in the company. If I were in his shoes, I would raise the question of fraud to his CFO and inquire as to whether the company would remedy the situation . As comptroller it is in the realm of his duties to find these kinds of discrepancies.
