1. In your view, what does it mean to be “masculine”? Do you think it is important for males to be masculine? Why or why not? How do you consider a man that is not masculine?
According to the correspondents, to be masculine is to be corresponding habit to male human attributes. The embodied with muscles, physique and abilities that make one to be strong, aggressive, tough, emotionally stable and with an authoritative personality. Male should be masculine as it is their natural morphology. However, there is nothing wrong with some being skinny as long as they know their identity and are socially functional as men. What it might portray around is that some individuals will be being stereotyped for their natural skeletal formation and that would be inappropriate. Any man that is not masculine is as important to the society as the masculine. Masculinity does not define gender (Lips, 2017). While these are good insights – whose responses do these represent? What age group – this was an essential outcome to compare these. Without identification of age this does not meet expectation for the assignment.
2. In your view, what does it mean to be “feminine”? Do you think it is important for females to be feminine? Why or why not? How do you perceive a female that is masculine?
To be feminine to means to be clever, smart and insightful and with a ladylike physique. It is also accompanied with loads of empathy, gentleness and excessively sensitive trait in an individual. It has nothing to do with gender but most have taken it as a predominant trait among women rather than among men. I do not consider is a rule that all females must be “feminine.” As long as the female appreciates their identity and roles in the society, it does not matter if they are masculine or feminine. These traits are just a skeletal structure and has nothing to do with valuing or devaluing the gender based on them. A female that is masculine is just endowed to be even effective in many aspects of the society with very little limitations comparatively (Lips, 2017).see comment above.
3. In your opinion, are there certain tasks or jobs that men are usually better at than women? Are there certain tasks or jobs that you think women are usually better at than men? Or do you think men and women are equal? Is the society still training women in as lesser beings than women? What do you think should be done to resolve stereotype or enhance equality?
The corresponded do not think that there are some tasks that men are better in than women. Initially, that was a traditional restriction before the society was enlightened by education. Men and women are capable of performing all known tasks equally better. The slight variations occur due to the individual’s characteristic traits which cannot be used to generalize on a single gender against the other. In their view, men and women are equally capable of anything before them except for the natural aspects based on the physiological functional differences only. In short men and women are equal. In the society, gender discrimination still happens where women are trained to be submissive before men. More educational and financial empowerment should be promoted for women and the society should encourage sharing or responsibilities and functions in the society to reduce the impact of gender discrimination (Lips, 2017).
4. In your daily life (e.g. in school, on sports teams, at club meetings, at church, at afterschool programs, or just playing with friends) do you feel that girls and boys are treated equally? If not, what differences do you notice? How do they make you feel?
While in the open field playing games and sports, taking part in clubs meetings, come together, there are common grounds where one will feel the spoken and acted differences between men and women. Men are usually considered stronger and rougher that women and so issues concerning politeness and gentleness is ascribed to women as men are considered tough for high risky tasks, ventures and high valuable activities because they are considered able to defend themselves better than women. The combination of men and women in some sports is considered odd which pushes out some men from participating stating that women will make the sport boring. The feeling is awkward, especially among women to know that they are still discriminated based on their gender. Men do not really feel the intensity but somehow feel it is wrong but it is happening (Davies, 2013).
5. How would you describe the images of men and women that you see on television shows, read about in books, see in advertisements, etc.? Are men and women portrayed in predictable or stereotypical ways? Do you think these images are accurate? Do you think these images influence the way you think about the roles that males and females play in society?
The images on TV, images in advertisements platforms like magazines among other portray women as attraction objects for issues that are viewed by the society as men’s. Very few images of men are used unless they are portraying the masculinity and strength of men. They are unsurprisingly stereotypic, favoring men and women distinctively in different areas, not as equals. The general features of these images are not realistic. They are exaggerated to send a strong feeling to the viewer’s emotionally, which will influence their decision making while using or considering to use the products advertised. The images do affect the perspective of the people concerning the roles and responsibilities of male and female characters in the society (Davies, 2013).
6. Have you ever felt like you couldn’t do something you wanted to do because you were a girl/boy? Why?
The corresponded had responses varying from yes and no, depending on their body structure. Those who were skinny felt could not do some heavy and laborious tasks just because they were not men. Ladies were mostly affected by these feeling. Other who considered themselves flexible and able to do just as the men did not have the feeling of not being able to do some tasks just because they were not men (Davies, 2013).
Hi Ashley,
While you have shared comments you have not done so within the context of age groups. This was a key element for this assignment. As such this is noted as missing and points have been deducted accordingly. 70/100 mm
