Dropbox Assignment 5: Using Google Apps—Calendar and Docs

Be sure you have carefully reviewed the links provided in the Using Google Apps lecture in the Content area. If you have additional questions or need additional tutorials, there are many other resources available online. Simply use Google to search “using Google Calendar” or “using Google Docs.”

Time Management Using Google Calendar and Google Docs

For this assignment, you should first complete the exercise found in the Time Management lecture and the related Time Management Part 1 discussion.

Then, show your understanding of time management and how to use Google Calendar by creating an hour-by-hour schedule for one day of your week, and a month calendar for the remaining four weeks of this course. Complete each of the following steps:

Hour-by-Hour Schedule

☐ Choose one of your busier days and consider the things you both need and want to accomplish.

☐ Open Google Calendar and choose the Day option.

☐ Begin with the time you will wake in the morning. Add tasks/events/activities to every hour of the day until your wake time the following morning.

☐ At least once, schedule a task/event/activity to less than one hour (e.g., 30 minutes).

Month Calendar

☐ Choose the Month option in Calendar.

☐ Add Week 5’s assignments from this course to the appropriate dates, based on when the assignments are due.

☐ Add Week 6’s assignments from this course to the appropriate dates, based on when the assignments are due.

☐ Add Week 7’s assignments from this course to the appropriate dates, based on when the assignments are due.

☐ Add Week 8’s assignments from this course to the appropriate dates, based on when the assignments are due.

☐ Add “Read lecture materials” to the calendar on the date(s) you intend to do your reading.

☐ Add any other necessary study time (e.g., “write first draft of My Study Skills Paper”) to the calendar on the date(s) you intend to do it.

Then, create a document using Google Docs and describe generally how your daily schedule might change depending on the time of year. How might you anticipate changes ahead of time? This explanation should be between 100 and 200 words. Next, take a screenshot of your hour-by-hour schedule and then your calendar in the "Month" option and add the images to your Google Doc.

Finally, share your Google Doc with your instructor. For information about how to share your Doc watch How to Share a Google Doc . You will also need to download the Google Doc and submit it to the Dropbox.

Grading: You will be graded on completing the hour-by-hour schedule and month calendar checklist (10pts) and your 100-200 word Google Doc explanation of your schedule and anticipated changes (10 pts). You will not receive any points unless you submit your document to the Dropbox.
