In nursing, tests are crucial in evaluating a practitioner's grasp on their field. Tests also help nursing practitioners to evaluate their strengths and weaknesses in their select fields. These tests are also crucial in being a licensed nursing practitioner (Nursing exam resources, 2021). With tests playing such an essential role in the field, it is essential to have the necessary skills and knowledge to pass them. This paper aims to examine my strengths and weaknesses according to the results of the exam I took last week. The results will also form the basis for formulating a study plan that will suit my strengths and weaknesses for the remaining period.

Strengths and weaknesses

Tests help in helping one know their strengths and weaknesses in their area of study (Nurse strengths and weaknesses, n.d.). With the test covering most of the work I had gone through, I was strong in the psychopharmacology area. This may have been due to prior intensive and extensive reading on the topic. I also enjoyed the classes and would do several revision questions daily. My weakness revealed itself in the psychotherapy area. This would have been because I lacked the necessary resources to go through the area. I also did not comprehend the question and used the wrong method for answering them.

Smart goals

SMART is an acronym that helps nursing practitioners set and visualize their goals. It outlines that a goal should be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely (How to set nursing SMART goals | Nurse Choice, 2018). It could also be employed in other areas, which would help in better preparation and passing of the National Certification Examination. My SMART goals will improve on my weaknesses while still maintaining my strengths.

i) I will do more psychotherapy questions and make sure I learn how to understand the questions from this area. I will do this by:

a) Creating more time for psychotherapy revision on my timetable.

b) Engaging with the lecturer, and also going online and learning how to answer psychotherapy questions.

ii) I will get more reading material on psychotherapy, printed and online, to help with intensive and extensive revision. This will be achieved by:

a) Going to the library to get relevant books on psychotherapy.

b) Subscribing to online websites and journals that offer psychotherapy knowledge and questions.

iii) I will review the questions from the test which I failed and better understand the topics I do not understand and go through them. This will be achieved by:

a) Going through the test paper and determining the topics I failed

b) Going online and attempting 100 similar problems each day.

Resources and study plan

To accomplish my goals, I will need to have the necessary resources needed for the course. The several types of resources I will tap into will include psychotherapy books and journals, online texts, and tutorials, and also, I will have a study timetable that aligns with my goals. The study timetable will help me plan my time better and act as a reminder on my daily schedule for improving my weaknesses.

Conclusion

In this paper, I have understood my strengths and weaknesses in the test done last week. With the above goals and available resources in place, I will understand the psychotherapy area of study better. I will also be able to increase my chances of getting a better grade in the area when I take the National Certification Examination.
