Part 1: Professional Goals

Professional Introduction

I am pursuing a Masters in Human & Social Service because of my interest in wanting to have my own Non-profit Agency. In the past four years I have been working on my Bachelors in Human Resource. After having an opportunity to work for a Non-profit agency helping those that were HIV/AIDS positive and their kids. Because of the education and hands on experience interested me to wanting to establish my own Non-Profit agency also helping those that are HIV/AIDS positive. In pursuing my Masters in Human & Social Service will assist me with having a better understanding on how to apply for grants, have successful company and also on how to provide the proper resources for anyone needing assistance. List past professional and personal efforts that you will likely carry into future work.

Professional and Academic Background

I am currently pursuing my Masters’ in Human & Social Service at Waldron University. I have a Bachelors’ of Science in Human Resource Management that I earned from Ashford University. I have worked in my field of study when I lived in Miami, Florida. I worked for the only Non-Profit Agency that had a daycare that accepted children that were HIV/AIDs positive. We not only assisted children but also adults and had an Outreach Program for the community and surrounding areas. While working I also assisted with writing grants, 501©3’s to make businesses non-profit.

Goal Statements and Their Relation to Academic Research

When I began my journey to further my education it was based more on just wanting to have a degree. However, after having time to think and realizing that I can do all things. There were many Universities that I looked at but none that would contribute to my overall goal. Upon searching Walden I was able to find a graduate study that was a great fit for me. I was provided a register that listened to what my overall goal is and directed me to the best fit program. My program of study at Walden will allow me to meet my goal in being a successful business woman and also a better person overall. My goal is to have my own Non-Profit Organization and have other offices all over the world. I expect to achieve a complete understanding on all the essential things that I will need in having a successful company.

Reflection of Walden's Mission Statement

When I read Walden’s mission statement it mirrored what I would like to do in reaching my goals and knew that Walden was the school I wanted to attend. In having my Outreach Program, I will be able to provide all the services needed to a diverse community. Reaching my goal of having a chain of non-profit organizes spreading knowledge, providing professional careers and assistance for those with HIV/AIDS. My past work experience and with the knowledge I will gain will allow me to become a role model and professional advocate.

Attainment of the Advanced Degree Related to Goals

In having an advanced degree, it allows anyone to have more than enough knowledge in helping you be the successful professional and business owner. Having a higher education provides a clear career path, prepare me for the different challenges that will be faced and will help me reach my goals. In making a decision on where I wanted to further my education took time and patience. Knowing that whatever school I choose it had to work with my schedule and being in a classroom wasn’t going to be a good fit for me. I knew that I needed a school that would be a good fit for the leadership role that I will have in my non-profit organization. Once I read Walden’s mission, looked at the curriculum and spoke with a representative from the school my search ended. Walden offered what I was wanting and needing in order for me to complete my next step in reaching my next goal.

Part 2: Educational Background and Research Proficiency

I have a Bachelors in Human Resource Management and working on my Masters in Human Social Service. In having both of these degrees I will be able successful in any direction that I choose to go with my education.

Professional Presentations, Seminars, Training, and Workshops

I have had training and experience working for a non-profit agency. Grant writing, Outreach training and I also was able to have hands on training. My professional endeavors are accomplished due to me not wanting to give up and work harder.

Volunteer Work

Volunteer work is good in giving opportunities in helping and satisfaction knowing you are helping others. Getting involved and getting back to the community allows you to build repour. The effectiveness of volunteering opens doors for you to meet, learn and develop skills whether it is social or mental.

Academic and Research Strengths and Weaknesses

I have a great deal of strengths and weaknesses yet with room for improvement in both. One major weaknesses for me is procrastinating. I tend to start and then put other things in place of what is most important. However, I feel my self-esteem and over thinking causes me to put things off too. I know that I can do my work anytime without delays this is an area that I would like the faculty to assist. Yet working with others and doing group projects is not affected like it would be if I worked alone. My strength is being ambitious. I am always quite ambitious about what I do. Never giving up on wanting to successfully completing my Bachelors and now on to my Masters. My ambition made me kept me from allowing situations, life changes and other things in my way.

Conclusion

I am pleased the distribution requirements, that are provided will help me explore areas that I wouldn’t have experienced at another University. My plans in succeeding my goals in learning new things about myself and as a student. The desire in wanting to make a change and being successful professional. Keeping in mind this ever-changing, ever-learning approach will help me to be a scholar.

Part 3: Plan of Study and Program of Study Form

Overall Learning Goals

My overall goal while studying at Walden is to learn with a purpose, be able to apply what I have learned and to accomplish having a 4.0 gpa or better. Often times I have learned things but only learned what was needed to pass a test. In having learning goals, it will develop my skills and catapult my career. The course offerings will be used in helping me develop a plan and the basis on starting my non-profit business. My goals for the courses I plan on taking I will apply the resources, and the necessary tools whether it is for personal or business.

Description of Coursework

However, my approach for each course will increase my knowledge and understanding so that I can apply effectively. Each course will provide more direction for me on how to maintain my business or if I am working for a company. I will be able to have the appropriate resources, references and guidelines to properly seeking and writing grants.

Where I am in my educational path there will be no change in ideas as I move through the program. In having no changes but more so applying more ideas, but we want you to get your creative and resources.
