Selected article main idea
Taylor Pittman in 2018 wrote and published a mental health article in the Huff post journal. The main message being shared by the author is on the importance of granting attention to children's mental health. According to the article, children also face massive challenges and traumatizing situations that affect their mental ability. They also need to be taught how to cope with stressing situation so that they can sustain and promote good mental health. In the article, the author hence provides five simple, unique, and effective strategies that parents and guardians should learn so that they can promote and teach their children how to take care of their mental health. The thesis statement of the article is the reason why parents should take care of their children’s mental health and how.
From the argument provided in the article, it is evident that children's mental health is of absolute importance. It determines the quality of life that the child would have. The reason is that when parents create an environment that the child is free to share his/her emotional feelings and also parents understanding their children's emotions through outward signs available, the child leads a stress-free life. Thus, the child can engage in healthy plays and also learn how to address situations without confusion. It is also an effective and strategic way to build a child's levels of confidence because when a child is aware that he/she can share his/her experiences without being judged or rebuked, the child feels free and confident that any challenge can be amicably addressed.
Additional source
The additional source selected in authored by Schulte-Körne, (2016) and talks about the various mental health problems that school going children and adolescents face. The main idea being raised by the author in the article is that a majority of school going children and adolescents have a lot of mental problems that they face. Some of these challenges are triggered by family issues, society, and even the environment. Failure to understand and address these problems leads to a negative effect in the present child's life, for instance, poor levels of concentration. The problem has the potential to lead to chronic mental challenges in the later stages of child development which are more complex to treat and some conditions get to an irreversible state.
Score rating of the article
The article can be rated to be of high quality as per the content captured. The more reason is that adult mental health is granted priority and attention as compared to children mental health. However, the article makes it clear that parents fail to understand that mental challenges that children face have a gradual impact that becomes outward in their adulthood. This means that will addressing children mental problem would lead to reduced and controllable adulthood mental cases.
Thesis sentence and topic outline
Child mental health is important to understand, and adults enlightened on how to address these challenges. The more reason is that in most cases, children mental problems are left unattended to due to lack of sufficient knowledge by parents and guardians on the best course of action to take. Also, some cultures have not granted ample chance for children mental health to be considered and promotes. Thus, it is important for the issue to be addressed from all aspects so that the environment, society, and families can create and sustain the right environment for child mental health and growth.
