For this week’s assignment, Interpreting moderated multiple regression; A comment on Van Iddekinge is the article I chose to critique. As stated in the article, the main issue addressed is “the amount of variance attributed to the “interaction” or product term might be correct, but we challenge what that finding means in terms of the validity of the multiplicative model being tested.” The problems came about due to the test for interaction based on effect size. However, I would have chosen a different variable from testing the interaction because this may be harder to prove. I do like how the article explained step by step what is being done, how, and why. Also, it stated the possibilities of what they were hoping for. The article included data sets, which is a plus when it comes to doing multiple regressions.
In the article it stated, The heart of the misinterpretation, we suspect, comes from conflating the conceptual with the statistical meanings of moderation (Vancouver, J. B. et al. 2018). Conceptual models involve constructs, which in the article they designate with capital letters, this tends to use statistical models to help measures, which was used with lowercase letters (Vancouver, J. B. et al. 2018). Conceptual moderator models are models in which two or more constructs have a joint, nonindependent effect on some outcome construct (Vancouver, J. B. et al. 2018).
Overall this article was very informative. When explaining and conducting a multiple regression analysis, this was done without a doubt, perfectly.
