· Analyze your competitive advantages.

· Based upon the SWOT analysis, is there another business that is doing something similar that can be referred to? Provide examples.

· If there is not another business, describe how what you’re doing is a unique product or service offering.

· Propose a competitive business initiative to address the unmet need.

· Create a high-level timeline and operational steps necessary to implement your solution.

Although Netflix, Inc. is an extremely successful company, the pandemic of this past year has highlighted how quickly things can change. With the pandemic, Netflix’s revenue grew as more people were quarantined in their homes and used much of their spare time on streaming services. However, an unmet need that Netflix has is to figure out a way to increase consumer spending in a market that has many Americans facing the toll of rising debt in the US. One way to increase consumer spending is expand into additional global markets. Although Netflix has already initiated a presence in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, Asia is an untouched market with lots of potential. Netflix needs to figure out a plan to meet the governmental regulations to operate in Asian countries. Asia is the leader in technological innovations, and it would be a shame for Netflix to not take full advantage of that market.

Netflix has a unique offering in that it offers access to more popular movies and television series than another other streaming service. This gives them an extremely competitive advantage as Hulu and Amazon Prime have not yet figured out how to keep up with Netflix’s expanding consumer base. Netflix, however, is not perfect as it does not offer options for up-to-date prime time television shows. For example, Hulu offers its subscribers the opportunity to view their favorite shows 24 hours after they have been released live. Netflix does not have that functionality and that is something that would also benefit executives to look into.

Netflix can meet their unmet need of expanding into the Asian market by creating a functional team. The team needs to be spearheaded by a manager that knows the laws and regulations of establishing a presence in the Asian market. Additionally, a company analysis needs to be performed to determine what roadblocks Netflix will face with this plan as well as contingencies to overcome them.

Creating a global presence is not an overnight thing and will take careful planning and timing. I project that Netflix can infiltrate the Asian market in the next two years. I would spend the next six months searching for the perfect team to create this initiative. Once six months hits, the team should spend the next year creating short-term goals that will help Netflix reach the ultimate goal of increasing their presence in Asia.
