Planning and inspecting all road, bridge, and culvert projects, designs and submits all transportation plans, supervises construction work, and more.

Design and submit all plans to the Iowa Department of transportation, direct and supervise all construction and maintenance work, inspect contract road, bridge, and culvert projects, and

Handling environmental health functions, zoning permits, and enforcement of zoning ordinances.

Job Description

Emergency Management Coordinator

Classification responsibilities

The emergency management coordinator coordinates the preparation and implementation of the emergency management plan and emergency management operation of the county. Besides, the coordinator relates the procedures that are associated with the working of the state for the plan and directory of the county. This supports the development and implementation of emergency plans. Lastly, the emergency management coordinator represents the county government in various local and state committees and overseers the Community Emergency Response Team of volunteers.

Distinguishing features

The emergency Management Coordinator is a civilian class who is supervised their reviewers. The fire captain is the reviewer and serves as an emergency response subject matter expert. An assistant Fire Chief who serves as the county manager is supported by the coordinator. Besides, the coordinator participates actively in local and state committees but must be approved by the fire captain and his assistant (Clayton, 2021) Lastly, the coordinator is required to work before, during, and after events of emergency.

Qualifications

The minimum qualification required is a bachelor’s of degree in Emergency Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, or closely related field and 3-5 years experience. On the other end, preferred or desirable qualifications are emergency management professional certification from Homeland Security and Emergency Management(HSEM), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) (Mesa, 2016).

Essential functions

Communication: Be able to communicate with the county medical department, management, coworkers, public safety, and emergency management personnel from other agencies.

Manual/physical: responds quickly before, during, and after emergency incidents. Thus, many include working in extreme weather conditions. Operate a motor vehicle, lift and carries object easily and can operate any electronic devices.

Mental: learn job-related material with ease, coordinates the preparation and implementation of emergency plans, and lastly conduct research and analyze data.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge and skills in coordinating and executing emergency management, preparedness, and response efforts.
