Forum 2: My name is N.B. I am a 38 years old, married, and have a eleven year old son. We also have a pet baby bearded dragon who is also my baby. 😊. I currently reside on the outskirts of Charlotte, North Carolina.
As for a little about me professionally, I served in the US Army for 4 four years as an Intelligence analyst. I really did not know want to, but my father felt it would be a great way to gain some life skills and experiences since I did not know what I wanted to do in life. I then transitioned to Operations and then onto Human Resources contracting in Kuwait. I worked my way up from and Employee Relations Representative to a Human Resources Manager. While Operations and HR have been my primary focus, I decided that I am going to go in a new direction. I received my life coach certification last year and looking to start by business as a accountability and empower coach/consultant for youth.
On a personal note, I am a silly, upbeat, reserved, and family-oriented. Heavy on integrity and loyalty when building relationships both personally and professionally. I enjoy spending time with family, having gatherings with games and laughs. I love to bargain shop and style outfits. I love to travel and have been doing so all my life. Growing up as a military child, joining the military myself as well as living in the middle east for eight years allowed me to visit some awesome places and experiences various cultures. I am currently on a spiritual journey with a focus on healing, self-love and finding my purpose in life. I have been learning about energy work and crystal healing.
In closing with my education (in which brings me here today), I received my bachelor’s in Organizational Management from Ashford in 2012. I told myself I was just going to take a break, and that break turned into 8 years! However, obtaining my master’s is a personal accomplishment that I would like to see into fruition, so I decided that it is better late than never. I started back taking classes in July 2020 with my master’s degree path in Organizational Management and Specialization in HR. I believe I went that route because that is the field I was working, and I was good at. But truth be told, I was not passionate about it. So, three courses in, I emailed my advisor and advised that I wanted a change. I decided to pursue my master’s in Human Services with a specialization in nonprofit. I have a passion for helping others and want to use my gifts to do so. It has been very informative and interesting field to learn about thus far. I am hoping to find my way career wise in the is journey and begin volunteering soon to gain experience.
I am looking forward to learning from you all!
Forum 2; My name is D.J, hailing from the Pelican State, Louisiana. I am freshly 29 with no children, but I have a niece and two nephews that rule fill that void as well as empty my pockets most of the time. Leisurely, I love to travel, so I am probably on the road if you are looking for me. Aside from that, I love my friends and family, and making memories with them always does my heart good. I am a music lover at heart, and music is a cure-all for just about anything, in my opinion. It is my hope to check off more travel plans on the list this year, considering the past year that we have experienced.
Professionally, I have a B.S. in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology. The past 7+ years have consisted of gaining experience in case management with the public/non-profit sector(s) in various capacities (school-aged children, juvenile, adult prisoners, etc.). I have also had past experiences in supervisory roles that have led me to my current role with FEMA as a Voluntary Agency Liaison (VAL). FEMA has given me the opportunity to grow in such a short time by making a lasting impact, which is why I decided to pursue my M.A. in Human Services. Human services have been embedded in all of my roles thus far and I know this is where my passion lies.
I feel as though my future plans change daily, however, one thing that remains constant is my hope to move up the ladder within FEMA as well as open my own non-profit organization dedicated to youth and build a multi-purpose center. In my area, I know there is a need for youth mentoring by getting back to the basics of giving those less fortunate an opportunity for success. I am looking forward to learning from Dr. G and each of my fellow classmates, good luck in your future endeavors. Graduation is upon us....oh the places you will go!
