Assignment: Research Problem Paper
Your first task as a doctoral researcher is to begin a search for your research problem. Consider your passion. What do you care about? What problem in your educational specialization interests you the most? Try to express this in a single sentence that begins with the words, “The problem is…” This can be your starting point in developing your research problem.
Note that your research problem must also be considered a problem in the educational discipline by published researchers. Your work builds on, and adds to, the work other scholars have done. To determine if your research problem is current, you need to search the most recent peer-reviewed literature. At this point in your study, seek reference literature that has been published within the last 5 years.
Your topic must be aligned to the specialization to which you are assigned. For example, if your specialization is Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment (CIA) then your topic must deal with either Curriculum, Instruction, or Assessment. You -would not be able to choose "teacher retention" or any other non-CIA topic.
To prepare:
· Review the required readings, media, and resources.
· Use your citation management software and Boolean logic, as you seek evidence from the literature that justifies pursuing this research problem.
· Download the Writing Assignment Template and Exemplar from the Week 2 course announcement.

The last few days I have been writing to you about how to make a quality discussion forum posting. First, we covered the content of the initial discussion forum posting. Then, we covered how to write a high-quality reply to another students’ posting. And today we are going to finish by talking about how to format your discussion forum postings. Here are several tips:
Use section headings to format your post. This will help to ensure that you address everything that is required, and help your fellow students to locate specific information on each required area. For example, the week 1 assignment should include the following headings:
a. Topic of research interest
b. Philosophical orientation that reflects my worldview
1.
2.
1. Epistemological and ontological assumptions of this orientation
2. How these assumptions lend themselves to a research approach
3. Use APA style to format your discussion forum postings. A great resource for this is your APA style guide or the Purdue Owl (https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/).
4. Insert your comments directly into the discussion forum posting area and do NOT attach any documents. Attaching a document
5. adds an extra step for other students to do to read your posting, which will mostly likely mean that less students will read it.
6. If you use the Chrome browser (and you should), use the “Edit -> Paste and Match Style” feature to paste text into the discussion forum posting window. This will remove all of the background formatting that can cause your formatting to look bad if you just copy and paste without this feature.
