Overview of the Business Problem
M3 community credit union seeks to provide its clients with uncompromised customer service, respecting ethics, regulatory, and privacy compliance. The information and technology infrastructure at the bank do not support the needs of the business optimally. Additionally, customer needs are continually changing, constraining the existing system. The organization is witnessing high turnover owing to employee dissatisfaction with the system. A review of the current system reveals a mixed environment of infrastructure, which presents a challenge to management and administration. The diverse environment of infrastructure comprises of software mainframe and legacy systems. The organization also runs on a Client-Server Windows server 2012 Hyper-V and wireless computers installed with Microsoft Office 2010. Other IT infrastructure in the organization includes DHCP, firewalls, VPN, Switches, and routers. Therefore, managing the mixed environment infrastructure requires specialized resources and skills, while the resources of the organization are over aching. The analysis also revealed that organizational data resided in multiple places, making it difficult and reliable to obtain it on demand. Furthermore, the available data was unreliable to inform critical decisions for the business. A scrutiny of the system also revealed an outdated mobile application.
Needs of the Business
The information and technology department of the Bank is in a crisis. It faces resource constraints both in terms of infrastructure and human capital. The IT department operates in a mixed environment infrastructure, implying mix-ups in managing resources. The employees in the department are facing confusion and inexperienced in handling a mixed environment. The employees face daily frustrations, hence the high turnover. Therefore, there is a need to separate the IT environment from legacy systems.
The bank also deserves an upgrade of the current IT infrastructure.
The bank needs a new mobile application to replace the outdated one.
Desired Outcomes
Upon implementation of the recommendations, the bank will achieve improved IT performance and separation of a role. The bank will have a robust IT infrastructure to support dynamic functions. Implementation of recommendations will also consolidate data in one location and provide a backup of the same in a remote area (Ghahramani, Zhou, & Hon, 2017). The backup is a fallback plan to ensure information is safe as well as essential for business continuity. The proposed central database system alongside the database management system will help put information and organizational data together.
The report recommends an overhaul of the mobile application system. Replacing the mobile application with a flexible one will ensure seamless communication among the IT systems.
Cloud Computing Architecture
(Damolfetta,2019 Visio Cloud Computing Architecture)
The above represents the existing cloud computing environment. The company’s data centers are scattered, making information difficult to trace. While the databases are accessible via the cloud, they are in different locations.
Proposed Upgrade of The Network Diagram
(Damolfetta,2019 Visio Proposed Upgrade Network Diagram)
The above diagram is the proposed upgrade of the network. The server room replaces scattered databases and IP phone upgrade the existing mobile applications.
Why the Recommendations are Beneficial to the Organization
The recommended changes are essential to improve the performance of the IT department and reduce turnover. The proposed changes include an infrastructure upgrade. Acquisition of robust IT infrastructure will help make operations efficient at the organization (Jo, Maksymyuk, Strykhalyuk, & Cho, 2015). Additionally, the bank needs a server room where the database and servers will be located. The server room must be in the basement of the business premises or preferably within a central location. The server room will sort out the data centricity problem, unifying the scattered information.
