- One of our weekly discussions made us focus on a specific act in health care and its impact.

- One of our assignments had us focus on the factors that contribute to health disparities and how to address them

* These are applied in the field because we are aware of the surrounding populations and how they vary so when we are dealing with patients when can offer quality care that fits their needs.

1. Analyze how population health impacts healthcare. This is meaningful to me because there are certain populations that do not have access to efficient and effective healthcare and in turn that affect their lives. I do not find it fair that certain populations have access to better healthcare and treatments than others do.

Evaluate health-related research and research methods.

-Intro to Research Methods and Analysis (HLTH 4205)

-Our weekly discussions had us focus on a specific chosen health issue and we had to discuss how we can utilize the different research methods to find an answer to our questions.

*These are applied to the field because health care is constantly changing and that means that research will always be conducted. It is important to stay on top of these changes and research outcomes, so we can be aware of methods and discoveries.

2. Evaluate the inter-professional approach to healthcare delivery. Working on the non-clinical side of healthcare we often loose insight on how to deal with patients due to the lack of constant patient interaction. I feel that it Is important that we always remain empathetic no matter the situation. I feel that in any career in the healthcare field we need to be reminded that we are there for the patients in a time of need.

Analyze how population health impacts healthcare (including behavioral, demographic, and cultural factors).

-Principles of Epidemiology (Hlth 4200)

-Our assignments focused on a specific disease and how it affected certain communities.

- one of our discussions had us focus on how a specific culture impacts healthcare.

*This is applied in the field because as healthcare constantly changes so does the populations and cultures around it. It is important to have a basic understanding of different cultures and their values and beliefs so that you can offer adequate healthcare.

3. Analyze evidence-based factors that impact a health care organization’s performance, quality, and safety. it is important to keep a watch on the health care organizations performance, quality and safety to ensure that the facility is functioning how it is supposed to be. If the facility is aware of the factors that can affect it they can implement strategies to protect themselves.

Explain how different factors impact the delivery of healthcare services (including technology, legal, and ethical factors).

-Healthcare Quality and Safety (HLTH 4110)

- one assignment had us compare two local hospitals and the services provided which allowed us to see what could impact their services.

*This is used in the field because if you work for a facility that lacks technological advances, ethics, and legal values it can impact that type of care that you can provide. This can affect your job and self-worth and the way that you conduct yourself. Some populations and facilities are unable to afford certain technologies and other factors which ultimately affects the patients from getting the care that they need and deserve. Being aware of the factors that could impact healthcare is important so you can ensure the best care for your patients.

4. Apply strategic planning methods to healthcare organizations.

It is important to a health care organization to have strategic planning methods for planning, implementing, and marketing. These methods allow the healthcare organization to operate, flourish and grow. When done correctly the facility can run exceptionally.

- Our last assignment focused on comparing two countries health care systems. This allowed us to evaluate the healthcare delivery system each country used.

*this applies to the field because remaining professional in the healthcare field is a necessity. It is important to offer your patients the care that they need and to respect their values at the same time. You never know who your patient might be so it is important to keep your relationships professional.

5. Evaluate human resource methods of managing healthcare employees. For a health care operation to run smoothly and keep it employees satisfied it is important to have a good human resources department. When your employees are taken care of they will generally be happy to do their jobs. They will feel a sense of importance and value doing their jobs.

Articulate critical issues in acute and long-term care from the perspective of patient and practitioner.

-Aging Across the Lifespan (HLTH 2115)

- part of our readings focused on long-term care. It gave examples from patients, families and practitioners.

*This applies to the field because people always age. There might be certain situations in your career where a patient cannot take care of themselves and does not have the family support needed. If you are aware of how acute and long-term care works you are able to assist in your patients care.

-Current Issues in Healthcare Politics and Practice (HLTH 3110)

- our last discussion had a create a healthcare policy that we would like to implement using a dimension of performance.

*This applies to the field because you want to ensure that your organization is functioning as good as it can. If you are able to monitor and analyze its performance, quality, and safety you are able to see areas that need improvement and ensure that your patients are getting care that is up to standard.

-Fundamentals of Accounting (ACCT 1004S)

-We learned to calculate the percentage of variance

- one discussion focused on the organizations such as IFR and GAAP and financial reporting.

*This applies to the field because you can ensure that your organization is operating successfully financially. You can make sure that the financial aspects of the organization are taken care of so it can continue to operate.

-Utilized a SWOT Analysis method

*This applies to the field because planning, implementing and marketing are keys to success for health care facilities. When strategic planning is in place and regulations are implemented correctly there is little room for error to occur.

-Human Resource Management in Healthcare (HLTH 4121)

- Week 3 assignment where we had to discuss the process of selecting and hiring the right person.

*This applies to the field because ensuring that your employees are being managed correctly is a good business practice and it show your employees that you care about them and the work that they do.

Demonstrate an understanding of healthcare financial issues (including insurance, reimbursement, and prospective payment).

-Health Finance and Economics (HLTH 4105)

- Week 2 spreadsheet where we completed an income statement and a balance sheet.

-week 5 discussion where we discussed what financial accounting is concerned with.

*This applies to the filed because healthcare and finances go hand in hand. It is important to have a basic understanding of how insurance, reimbursement and prospective payments work.
