Have you ever thought about what type of leader or manager you are? Perhaps a friend or colleague has commented on your leadership traits or qualities. Such insight and feedback from close peers can be invaluable, especially when given by individuals who have firsthand experience with you in a leadership role. Self-discovery and self-awareness are also essential processes in developing your capacity to lead, however. A core component of this process includes personal reflection and evaluation of your own leadership behaviors. Such an evaluation can provide you with invaluable insight into how you view yourself as a leader and what actions you might take to improve your effectiveness. In this Assignment, you will evaluate your own personal leadership skills. Before performing a self-evaluation however, it is helpful to narrow down the myriad components of leadership into a manageable list based on historical literature in the field. Luckily, many experts have already developed theories that will serve as foundational stepping stones. In Chapter 1 of your course text, you will explore several main leadership theories, including trait, behavioral, contingency (also known as situational), and charismatic. Instructions For this Assignment, consider the following:

• Referring back to Scott’s Chapter 1, what major theoretical classification most closely matches the one in which you were designated in the self-assessment?

• Did you get assigned to the type of leader to which you thought you would be classified? If not, what type of leader do you think you are? Why might your perception be different?

• Consider examples of your leadership style from your personal or professional experience.

• To which leadership theory from your Learning Materials do you ascribe, and why? How does this theory relate to your own personal leadership style?
