This paper provides a CDC Healthy Homes Inspection of my friend’s residence that is in Kingstone Town, in the northeast part of Ulster County, north of the Kingston City. Specifically, my friend’s residence is in Ulster Gardens, a residence nestled in a picturesque wooded setting on the east side of Kingston Town. It is important to note that in this situation, the requirements of local jurisdiction regulations for the collection and safeguarding of personal data have been met as to meet the specific requirement of this assessment.
Basically, according to the W.H.O, environmental health refers to those aspects of the human health and diseases that are determined by factors in the environment (Novice, 1999). Environmental health addresses all the physical, chemical, and biological factors external to a person, and all the related factors affecting behaviors (Friis, 2011). Essentially, this encompasses the control of our environmental factors with an aim of preventing diseases.
On the other hand, environmental health assessment refers to the theory and practice of assessing and controlling factors in the environment that can potentially affect health. Exposure to potentially hazardous agents such as microbes, pesticides, ionizing radiation, toxic chemicals and metals account for many of the forms of environmentally associated morbidity and mortality (Friis, 2011).
Therefore, it is important to be conscience of the environment in our homes where we leave to take precautions of any potential health hazard that the environment might be posing. CDC Healthy Housing Inspection Manual introduces the elements of an all-inclusive home inspection to interested parties in preventing illnesses and injuries caused by residential health and safety hazards (National Center for Environmental Health 2011).
Now, as far as the environmental health assessment of my friend’s residence is concerned, the Healthy Homes Model Resident Questionnaire as provided by the National Center for Environmental Health (2011) will be used. In addition, the following additional questions will be used; what personal protection equipment do you have? Do you have any accident prevention mechanisms in place? How conscious are you about your surrounding? Generally, it can be concluded that anything that would awaken an environmental health assessment inspector to the issues related with environmental health and safety, is worthwhile.
