Research Problems: Social Work Organization
The selected social service organization for this paper is the National Association of Social Workers. It is most known and among the leading professional social workers organization in the United States. The primary goal of this paper is to identify the problem the social organization tends to solve. The literature review is the approach that will be used to accomplish the research objectives. NASW is a social work professional institution dedicated to enhancing the well-being of individuals and how they can easily acquire basic human needs. The legitimacy of the research problem can be shown by numerous recent research and debates conducted on the topic (Muthukrishna and Henrich, 2019). In essence, recent social studies have been focusing on how humans, especially those experiencing vulnerability, oppression, and poor living standards, can be assisted to acquire basic needs in their daily lives.
The subparts of the social problem can be delineated by its Code which is designed to help social workers identify appropriate considerations in the emergence of ethical uncertainties and professional obligations (NASW, 2021). The social problem is based on how well the organization can enhance vulnerable, oppressed, and poor people to acquire their basic needs and improving their living standards. My determinations were based on the organization’s mission statement, which is based on enabling or providing assistance for people to meet their basic needs and eliminating poverty from communities living under normal standards. The essential details of the determinations included:
· Receiving and considering the application.
· Assessment of application and gathering of information from different sources regarding the research topic.
· Determination of the research draft.
· Holding of a technical meeting.
· Issuing of the final determination.
· Appealing of the determination.
The first step I will consider when planning for the research process is identifying the problem (Leedy and Ormrod). Based on the selected organization, the agency considers the enhancement of humans in living standards and elaborating poverty. The second step is reviewing the literature. With the problem identification accomplished, I will learn more about the topic by investigating more information about the human problems related to the research topic. The third step is to clearly define the terms and concepts used for the research problem (Blankenship, 2021). The problem attempted by the social work organization to solve can be defined as social status or human living standards. Step four will involve the definition of the population. Based on the research problem, the population involved can be defined as the one living under constant oppression, vulnerability, and poor living conditions or disabled individuals. The fifth step will include the development of the instrumentation plan, which is the study’s plan. Based on the research, I will include individuals who are often affected by the organization’s services in finding solutions for the research question. In the sixth step, I will collect data from different literature with the topic content and create an interview with some individuals affected by the organization’s social services. The seventh step will be based on analyzing the collected data for verification purposes.
In essence, the research question can be applied to the final project by appropriately understanding how to identify a research problem in different situations. This is by effectively utilizing three research problem sources, including knowledge gaps, omitted groups, and conflicting findings, to best comprehend the research topic. In turn, it will offer concise insights regarding the topic hence making it easy to identify the primary research question of any study.
