Week 1 | Part 1: My Academic and Professional Network

I have identified and secured the participation of the following academic (at least two) and professional (at least two) individuals and/or teams to form the basis of my network. This network will help me to clarify my vision for success and will help guide me now and in the future.

Directions: Complete the information below for each member of your network. For more than four entries repeat the items below with details of your additional network member(s) in the ‘ADDITIONAL NETWORK MEMBERS’ section.

NETWORK MEMBER 1

Name:

Title: Family Nurse Practitioner

Organization:

Academic or Professional: Professional

Why I selected this individual and/or team and how they will support my success in the MSN program and as a practicing nurse:

******is a work colleague who has been of great inspiration and support in my nursing career and my academic journey. He motivated and inspired me during the preparation of my NCLEX RN and also encouraged me to go back to school for my BSN and FNP, because he was doing his FNP at the time and watching him combine work with studies gave me the zeal that I could do it too. ****** has been able to successfully complete his Family Nurse Practitioner. He will support me by being a great resource as he is a Nurse Practitioner himself and practicing, did that through an online course.

Notes: ******* and I worked together on the West Unit at ******* in Columbus, Ohio when I was an LPN studying to become an RN.

NETWORK MEMBER 2

Name: *******

Title: RN-BSN, PMHNP (student)

Organization: *******

Academic or Professional: Professional

Why I selected this individual and/or team and how they will support my success in the MSN program and as a practicing nurse:

*******is that one person who has helped me to become who I am today professionally and academically. While working together, he encouraged me to go back to school because as an LPN, I will only be limited to nursing homes whiles the RN will give me great opportunities. He would tell me how he sees potentials in me and would tease that if I do not go to school to be like him, I should not talk to him. This is someone I only met at work and his zeal towards my education has really brought me far. He recently encouraged me to go back to school because he himself is in school to pursue his master’s with option in Psychiatry. ******* will support me academically and professionally since he is still practicing as a nurse and we are all in school at the same time even though he is enrolled in a different school.

Notes:

******* and I worked together on the Post-Acute Unit at ******* when I was an LPN and he was an RN-BSN.

NETWORK MEMBER 3

Name: *******

Title: *******

Organization: *******

Academic or Professional: Academic

Why I selected this individual and/or team and how they will support my success in the MSN program and as a practicing nurse:

*******has been assigned to me as my student service advisor through my journey for my master’s degree here at *******. I believe he will support my success through my study here at ******* because we had an in-depth dialogue about my achievements at *******and how I can adjust my work and family life to be successful. I made a study plan based on our conversation and he made me aware that he is a phone call or email away whenever I may need any assistance. Speaking with ******* eased my nervousness I had with the thought of pursuing my graduate studies.

Notes: He contacted me as my assigned student service advisor at *******

NETWORK MEMBER 4

Name: *******Facebook Page

Title: *******Facebook Page

Organization: *******

Academic or Professional: Academic

Why I selected this individual and/or team and how they will support my success in the MSN program and as a practicing nurse:

This team is made up of ******* students in the FNP program and we are all aiming at achieving one goal. I had difficulties using the student’s portal and posted questions on the student’s page for help. To my amazement I got help withing a very short time and I got the solution to my challenges. The group will support my success by helping me with information concerning classes, assignments that I may have questions, clinical preceptors since the group comprises of current and continuing students and alumni.

Notes:

The ******* University FNP Facebook page comprises of current and continuing students and alumni. I was added a week before the commencement of class and this platform has been phenomenal to me.

Conclusion

(Schmidt, K. 2019) stated that Professional networking is the best way for nurses to find jobs. Wofford 2018 stated that “whether the need to network is for mentorship or to get a dream job, it is important that one builds a network of professionals”. (Wofford 2018) These above people are those who in a way or the other has made a great impact in my academic and professional journey and working with them I believe will help make my academic journey a great one.
