Research Proposal

Following the Prospectus Form approval, students will create a research proposal before beginning their research. In this Discussion, students will review the Doctoral Study Guide and discuss the various aspects of the research proposal.

To Prepare for this Discussion:

· Review the elements of the Proposal

· Consider the relationship between the Prospectus, Proposal, and Doctoral Study

Post in your initial posting information that addresses the following questions:

1. Explain each section of the research proposal.

2. Outline all the steps required to have an approved research proposal.

3. What roles does the IRB approval play in the research proposal?

4. What is the difference between the Proposal Oral defense and the Doctoral Study Oral defense?

Discussion

Respond to at least two of your colleagues’ postings offering additional suggestions or highlighting critical aspects for completing their research proposal.

Each Colleague 250 words or more (Colleague 1 250 words, Colleague 2 250 words, Total 500 words)

1.   The two sections of the research proposal is the doctoral study document and an APA style reference list. Itproposal includes a review and analysis of the relevant literature, describes the methodology that will be utilized for the study utilizing specific university-approved doctoral checklist for self-evaluation and a Turnitin report to the doctoral study chair.

2. The research proposal consist of meeting the requirements specified in the minimum standards rubric, the chair submitted proposal, a Turnitin report, the doctoral checklist, and completed rubrics from each member in the assigned committee serving in the URR role, via MyDR; then approval from the URR to setup an oral conference or it can be returned with suggestions for revision. When approved the proposal is presented orally to the committee chair.

3. The Institutional Review Board (IRB) reviews each study conducted by Walden students to determine if the anticipated benefits of the study outweigh risks associated with participation in it. A formal application has to be submitted directly to the IRB and no data can be collected until IRB approval is granted.

4. A proposal oral defense can only commence after the URR has approval the proposal. The proposal is presented to the committee members but not the URR unless there is a compelling reason. It is a formal discussion of the proposal to identify any concerns to be addressed in the final version of the proposal or issues that may arise as the student moves forward with the doctoral study. The oral defense may only commence after the form and style revisions have been completed. The URR will not participate in this defense either unless there is a compelling reason. It is a formal discussion of scholarly content of the doctoral study, followed by an evaluation of the doctoral study, content revision may be needed based on the discussion during the defense. Both defenses must be recorded.

The purpose of the research proposal is to help you think through each step of the research project. The research proposal will let others think through your research plan to give advice that will improve the study. By writing the proposal, you have the opportunity to try out ideas and explore alternatives without harming a single participant. The process of writing the proposal will help with making intelligent and ethical research decisions.

The research proposal builds on the research journal. There are several steps when writing the proposal and includes the abstract, the table of contents, introduction, background, literature review, and description of the proposed research. The proposal's substance will reflect some of the following statements: why the topic is important; what is the hypothesis, how your hypothesis is consistent with theory or past research, and how it fits in with existing research.

The research proposal's substance makes it the foundation for the research study, and its substance and style make it the foundation of the final research report. The introduction and the method sections written for the research proposal should be highly polished drafts of the introduction and method sections for the final report. In contrast, other parts of the research proposal will serve as rough drafts of the abstract, results, and discussion sections of your final report.
