Wk 1 - Research Based Psychoeducational Article Summaries #1

Write a 1250-1500-word psychoeducational article summary

In week 6 you will complete a research-based psychoeducation group proposal. This assignment is designed as a means of assisting you with organizing the resources that you will use for this assignment. Each student will create a summary paper of five group psychoeducation articles with a selected population. These articles will be used in chapter two of your group proposal that is due in week 6.

For each article, use the following format:

1.  APA citation of the article

2. A statement identifying the type of psychoeducational group you are researching: For example: Suicide prevention for adolescence

3. A one or two paragraph summary of the article.

4. A discussion of important information gleaned from the article. Bullet points are acceptable and must include some points relative to the psychoeducation group: size, length of sessions, duration, topics covered.

5. Conclusions drawn from the article relative to how well psychoeducation groups work with your population and group.

This assignment will get you thinking about and reading the literature for your proposal early in the course. For this reason, the articles you turn in should be used for the group proposal.

Cite all five sources according to APA standards.

Helpful Tips:

· Read chapter one in your textbook. Pay attention to the section devoted to psychoeducation groups.

· Look for articles with titles that include the word “psychoeducation” and/or “Group,” the issue your group will be addressing, and the age group or gender for which your group is designed. For example: “CBT group for unwed teenage moms,” psychoeducational group for grieving widows”

· Look for information that will help support your group’s focus and design. For example, does the research show that CBT is effective in groups for unwed teenage mothers, what is the typical format of a group for your population including how long the sessions are and how often they should meet?

· Look ahead to the group proposal assignment in week 6 to see what other information you will need to support your group design.
