Business Description

The United States Air Force is the youngest of all five Armed Forces services, was established on Sept. 18, 1947. Today considered the World’s premier aerospace force. The Air Force belongs to the Department of Defense which Headquarters are Located in Washington, DC with different bases around the globe.

Air Force is the major military branch, and its mission is to defend the United States through the control and exploitation of air, space, and cyberspace by flying diverse missions’ capabilities (United States Dept. of the Air Force). Although most personnel work on the ground in activities such as construction and support in different technical capacities the Air Force is divided into Active Duty, Reserve, and Air National Guard Members dispersed in around dozen different commands. Those commands are allocated in numbers which is a tactical level based on the operational or warfighting mission and is oriented on the geographic region (where the commands are located).

Following the organizational structure, after the commands, the first level in the sequence is the Wing. There are formed of two or more groups; those groups consisting of several squadrons. Wings are divided into a composite (are self-contained) this is because they are ready to fly anywhere in the world; and objective (they are designed for specialized missions). Next, is the group, which is made of several squadrons, there are two general types of groups: dependent (operations, logistics, support, or medical); and independent (a group with responsibilities whose scope does not warrant wing-level designation). Down in the line is the squadron, this is considered the basic unit or the lowest level of command in the USAF, composed of two or more flights containing approximately a few hundred members. A flight is the smallest official capacity in the Air Force and usually ranges from a dozen people to over a hundred (Military units: Air Force. U.S. DoD).

As a member of the maintenance squadron my role within the Air Force mission is to perform and maintain weapons operation system in optimal condition, always mission ready. Currently, in my unit I play different roles, initially as a maintenance my primary job is inspect and modify weapons and equipment following the US Air Force’s time-compliance technical orders. Moreover, I work on management training for new members on my unit, to make sure they can obtain the necessary knowledge needed for a successful mission in our home base or in a deployed location.

As a member of the USAF, I never thought about it as a business corporation. While I was exploring for information to create this business plan, some of the information was collected from personal knowledge. Certain blocks can be considered similar to any other private enterprise, such as key partners, activities, and resources. It was interesting to analyze how many components needs to be aligned for a corporation to function and be successful. When we see business such as Walmart, Target, among others, customers just see the final result, the merchandise ready to be purchased.

Equally, Air Force by itself cannot provide the protection the USA needs; it depends on our allied nations which are the ones that allow us to install bases and handle business on their soils and the support from our brother branches. The armament, aircraft, military supplies, and technology are coordinated in the majority for non-military corporations, which are the ones generating the revenue.

Lastly, the Canva Business Model does provide an excellent understanding of the step to follow for a business plan, in the case of an Institution like the Air Force it is not effective due to missing information within the blocks.
