Basilaia, G., & Kvavadze, D. (2020). Transition to online education in schools during a SARS- CoV-2 coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in Georgia. Pedagogical Research, 5(4), 1-9.

Basilaia and Kvavadze (2020) studied Georgia’s and its population’s capacity to continue with education via online learning through distance learning. The authors examined different online platforms including the ones that were supported by the government during the peak of COVID-19 pandemic. Some of the online learning platforms examined by the authors include TV School, online portal, Google Meet, EduPage, and Slack. Basilaia and Kvavadze (2020) selected a case study where Google Meet platform was applied in a private school and found that there was a quick and successful transition from traditional to online learning within the first week. The results of the study implies that distance learning can successfully be applied to teach students including children when appropriate online learning tools such as TV school are applied. Comment by Research: What was the basis for the framework that grounded the study?

The authors do not thoroughly examine the approaches through which children can be trained to appreciate and accurately learn online. Instead, they provide structures that were applied by schools to teach in online platforms including organization of online classrooms with corresponding student emails, and links to specific classrooms, lessons, and activities. However, Basilaia and Kvavadze (2020) have not provided a thorough explanation of how children could successfully login to the virtual classrooms, and the effort that would be required to make their online classroom experience productive. Additionally, the authors have only discussed the importance of online classrooms in light of pandemics such as COVID-19, and how online classrooms can effectively be adopted in early stages of learning. They have not examined the specific steps that would make online learning for children successful including the roles that parents and guardians would play to ensure that their children gain from online learning. Apart from the technologies required for online learning, the authors have not examined the specific strategies that should be applied in order to ensure that children concentrate in the online classrooms including teachers’ roles given that children are playful and easily distracted. Comment by Research: This looks more like an evaluation of the study rather than a report of strengths and limitations. PARAGRAPH 2: The second paragraph of the annotation is an analysis of the source. The analysis should explain the strengths and limitations of the study. What were the strengths and limitations? Strengths can be found within the alignment of the study components or the accuracy of processes. Limitations are influences that the researcher cannot control.

Basilaia’s and Kvavadze’s (2020) study make important contributions to the body of literature about online learning in early childhood and the likelihood of academic success. The study has effectively demonstrated the effectiveness of different methods through which online learning can successfully be applied to increase students’ academic excellence. The online learning models proposed by the authors can be applied to increase online learning in early childhood education including the platforms that are user-friendly to children. Additionally, the online learning recommendations can be utilized by education officers to increase online learning with the agenda of applying distance learning tools in childhood education to increase the likelihood of future academic prosperity and professional development. Comment by Research: You started this paragraph the right way, but you did not specifically address how this study could apply to your future research. PARAGRAPH 3:The third paragraph of the annotation is an application of the source. The application should (a) justify how the source is applicable to your research interest, (b) describe how the source’s method is applicable to your research interest, and (c) indicate how the source might help to guide your future research on the topic. How was this article applicable to your research interest? Did you describe how the research design used in the study is applicable to your research interest? How could this article guide your future research?
