WORLD HISTORY, PAPER 2
The emergence of totalitarian ideologies in the 1920s did not bode well for world peace, as demonstrated by international developments in the 1930s and 1940s. Consider the impact earlier ideas had on these violent ideologies as you analyze the two text documents and the visual source. How might the authors of the two documents have responded to the visual source? What are the strengths and weaknesses of the two documents? To what extent do you think the two documents paved the way for later developments? What could have been done from an intellectual point of view to prevent the public’s embrace of these ideologies? These are only some of the issues you need to address in your paper. Also, consider the following questions: To what extent do you think that personal experience influenced the ideas expressed by the authors of the documents and the artist? What differences and similarities can you find in the documents? How can the two documents be viewed in a global context? Apply your critical thinking skills to determine what grade you think Hitler’s article would have received in this class? Explain your answer.
Do not use additional sources for this paper. You are allowed to draw upon our textbook as a secondary source (pp. 957-960, 962, 964-979, 982-985). You need to emphasize analysis of the documents and the visual source in your paper, but you also need briefly to place them in context. The documents are scanned from the same textbook as the one I used for paper 1. You will find it under footnote 1 in the Paper Format document on Bb.
