Annotated Bibliography
The very first of the resources was an article by Mr. Tom Williamson, from the Journal of Community & Applied Social Psychology. This article focuses on the overall concept of community policing and how these strategies are implemented. The article compares the community policing processes in both the United States and the United Kingdom as well. It is important to gain a much better global understanding of the community policing concept, as it has become a methodology used by police departments across the globe. The ability to gain a global perspective will allow me to conduct much better overall research.
The article from Crime & Delinquency focuses on the impact which community policing has produced in both suburban and rural communities, respectively. This is an in-depth look at how this process various by location based off a sampling conducted by 1,300 cities and counties across the entire United States. The ability to gather information from city managers and law enforcement officials across the nation was integral in providing this data. The article brings up good strategies on being able to implement effective strategies which will help to bring communities closer to law enforcement officials. This will set the foundation for increased participation and a safer living environment as well.
The article from the Journal of Urban Health provided and in-depth look at community policing in the city of Baltimore, Maryland. There was an embedded case study analysis which was conducted to derive the respective data set. The result of the studies found that violent police techniques truly fragment community relations and tarnish the overall principle of community policing. The high arrest rates in Baltimore were discussed within the context of the article as well as some of the preventive measures which can be utilized. The ability to obtain a detailed look at one of our nation’s most populous cities was interesting.
By utilizing the article from the Journal of Community Psychology, we can gain a much better understanding of the way which community policing can focus on our nation’s youth. The ability to understand the overall importance of this theory is essential as we move forward with community policing. The article focused on examining global attitudes toward the police, perception of the police, distributive justice of the police, and perception of police discrimination. There were cases which displayed the importance of youth intervention and mentorship programs provided by police departments. This article highlighted the importance of ensuring that youth programs are implemented in community policing practices.
The article from the publication Policing provided a detailed look at how policing is within our nation’s communities today. This publication focused on highlighting the design/methodology/approach and how it can be implemented within the communities across the United States. The article focused on the importance of ensuring that there is fair and impartial implementation of the community policing process. By providing this sense of respect, police officials can develop a much better presence within their very own communities. This paper was able to provide a clear and logical thinking when it comes the overall principle of community policing and how it is applied in today’s ever-changing society.
The various references which I will be utilizing for this research paper provide a profound sense of diversity. Before we can make the changes that are necessary to help the community truly grow, we must take a closer look at how community policing has evolved throughout the years. There needs to be a clear and concise understanding of how to utilize community policing across the entire nation. This type of policing is important because it establishes much better relationships between local, state, and federal authorities. In conclusion, the ability to implement community policing provides a much safer environment for all Americans to enjoy.
