BYD Auto Co., Ltd.
BYD Auto Co., Ltd. is a company that had evolved, advanced and become a renowned company over the past few years following its inception in 1995. BYD Company is an automobile firm based in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province (Xiangming & Fakhmiddin, 2013). It is fully owned by a subsidiary of BYD Company and it was founded in 2003 after the founder acquired an automobile company known as Tsinchuan in 2002. It has played an integral role in the design, development, manufacturing and distribution of cars, buses, rechargeable batteries, forklifts and trucks, all of which are sold under the BYD brand. It has also achieved so much since its inception (Xiangming & Fakhmiddin, 2013). This paper highlights on how BYD Company has changed, evolved and become a renowned company in leading greener and more sustainable urban transport and development in China.
Based on the company’s bold corporate vision and its persistent execution, BYD has played an important role as a home-grown company, nurtured by its local government, and has improved and set up a model for other cities to emulate. BYD Company has grown over the years and has become a leader in the industrial and technological frontier of green transportation. The company has been in operation for a few years but it has moved with speed to realize its goals and further create the urge to develop further (Xiangming & Fakhmiddin, 2013). BYD Company started off as a firm that wanted to improve on the manufacturing of quality rechargeable batteries but at a lower cost. The demand for rechargeable batteries grew in China and the founder, Wang Chuang Fu decided that he would develop low cost batteries to serve the expanding market for rechargeable batteries (Steve, 2015). Wang Chuang Fu was a graduate of the Beijing Non-Ferrous Institute and came up with the need to enjoy the competitive advantage in the rechargeable batteries industry in China. Later, the company has seen the need to manufacture electric and hybrid cars in response to global climate change.
The success associated with BYD Company is a great and a timely example for understanding what most companies need to do to help curb pollution in China’s major cities. Although the company still produces rechargeable batteries and has been successful in the field, it has ventured in electric or hybrid cars and received various accolades. BYD Company is a rising star, thanks to Wang’s ultimate goal of producing electric cars globally. He has had the passion of producing affordable middle-class electric cars.
BYD Company is currently facing various challenges of competition and opposition on the global platform, however; it remains focused towards achieving its ultimate goal. Although Shenzhen government steps in to assist, their hybrid cars were not as successful as the founder wanted. Today, the battery company turned automaker has now ventured into the production of plug-in hybrids and pure electric cars and it has also ventured into mass production of electric buses (Steve, 2015). With its cars dubbed BYD e6, which was introduced in 2011, it became one of the successful companies in helping china deal with the problem of climate change. It has also produced BYD e5, which is a similar all-electric sedan that has hit the consumer market with a bang. BYD has been instrumental in sending the message, “The Battery is Everything” slogan since it supports the top selling of EV manufacturer because of its low price and far range. Warren Buffet support BYD’s mission and supports the company’s progress.
Finally, BYD Company is a company that has advanced, evolved and transformed the rechargeable battery industry before successfully venturing into electric car production. The company’s close tie with government has helped the firm to augment the various government policy and corporate innovation in the advancing sustainable development goal. However, it is vital to spearhead infrastructural change as companies move towards the elimination of gasoline powered cars and replacing them with electric cars.
