Needs Assessment
In most cases, organizations are mandated to restructure their operations to optimize productivity and profitability. While it is not always a smooth process (as various factors shape the strategies implemented), the consideration of the problems and issues in an organization is significant. In addition to this, considering the needs of an organization is also beneficial, particularly since it can be linked to the challenges and problems being faced (Wall, 2016). As such, assessing the needs in relation to the challenges faced yields significant results since it ascertains those situations are not misinterpreted. Besides, it minimizes premature judgment and reduces mistakes and errors made from assumptions (Mackay, 2014).
As established in the management problem at the Dining Facility on a post in the military, poor personnel management ascertains that the client is mandated to address ineffective leadership and poor performance of employees. However, to effectively establish the needs of the Dining Facility, this paper will address a series of questions, including 1) What is the problem? 2) How is the desired performance related to the current performance? 3) How does the desired performance relate to the mission statement? 4) Is the problem organization-wide or isolated to one or a few individuals? 5) Have organizational initiatives created the problem? 6) Does the problem relate to individual performance issues? 7) Is training adequate to support the desired outcome?
Discussion
Addressing the Problem
An understanding of the management problem at the Dining Facility will play a significant role in establishing the organization's needs (Mackay, 2014). As already established, the client is experiencing a management problem attributed to ineffective leadership. With poor management of personnel, the facility’s operations are enormously affected. In this regard, various other factors in the organization are directly affected, including the performance of employees. It is undeniable that the management problem establishes the most vital need of the client, DFAC.
Performance Measures
In correlation to poor personnel management at the Dining Facility, the current performance does not equal up to the desired performance. As established in the results of the inspections conducted, the DFAC is certainly lagging in its performance. Since employees are centrally placed in the operations of any organization (Bourne, Franco-Santos, Micheli, & Pavlov, 2018), poor personnel management at the facility leads to decreased motivation and morale among employees. In this regard, the management problem at the Dining Facility contributes to the organization's current performance. Besides, employees' needs, and concerns were not addressed, which contributed further to poor performance in the organization.
No organization is set up with the aim or desire to fail (Wall, 2016). All strategies and components of the organization’s goals and objectives are directed towards maximizing organizational performance and profitability. The mission statement of the DFAC is no different. It is directed towards attaining success by enhancing the performance of the employees and promoting professional growth. As such, the organization aims at making the most out of its operations to attain significant results concerning performance. In this regard, the desired performance of the Dining Facility strongly intertwines with the mission statement.
Poor management of personnel at the DFAC affects a significant number of employees. While the leaders are centrally placed towards promoting this management problem, every member of staff is massively affected. Besides, the facility’s performance reflects the performance of the employees. Since the management problem at the DFAC affects everyone working at the facility, the problem is organization wide.
Attainment of organizational goals is an appropriate performance measure (Bourne et al., 2018), which helps establish whether the organization is on the right track. Another essential criterion used to measure performance is the income and profits generated at the Dining Facility. This criterion reflects on the performance of the employees and the organization at large. Customer service is also used to measure performance, which impacts consumers' behavior (Bourne et al., 2018). In correlation to this, the satisfaction level of consumers is also a criterion used to measure performance at the DFAC. It is easy to retain satisfied consumers and attract other consumers in the process.
Individual Issues
To optimize performance and attain success, the organizational initiatives at the Dining Facility have not contributed to creating the problem. Rather, they are directed towards eliminating challenges and issues such as the management problem experienced at the facility. The problem of poor personnel management significantly relates to individual performance issues. The contribution of each member of staff shapes the overall performance of the organization. When the employees are poorly managed, their attitude towards work is adversely affected and reduces the level of effort instigated to attain organizational goals and objectives (Bourne et al., 2018). Besides, the problem promotes reduced employee motivation and morale, reflecting on the performance of their roles and responsibilities. Thus, the relation of the established problem is strongly integrated into individual performance issues.
Adequate Training
Incorporating training of employees at the Dining Facility will promote the attainment of the desired outcomes. Since the organization faces a management problem, organizational training leaders on appropriate and effective leadership and management skills will yield significant results. In this regard, training will help in resolving the management problem at the DFAC. Additionally, training promotes professional growth and development, which will facilitate improved performance among employees. Thus, training is adequate to support the desired outcome.
Conclusion
Based on the responses documented in this paper, the Dining Facility has various needs attributed to poor personnel management. Since the problem is related to individual performance issues, the organization should address this need and promote the professional development and growth of the employees. Training is also a need of the Dining Facility, through which incorporating it within the organization will help address the management problem. Additionally, the organization ought to address the needs linked to its job design. More efforts should be instigated in the formulation of appropriate criteria to measure performance in the organization, as this will facilitate effective and efficient strategies.
