Why Animals should be used for Experimental Testing

Introduction-The use of animals in empirical studies have existed for a long period of time. Very many known researchers in the fields of medicine and psychology have utilized animals in furthering their studies. For example, Ivan Pavlov’s classical conditioning theory was developed after studying the salivation of the dogs to the ringing of the bell whenever food was presented to them (Jarius and Wildemann, 2015). Moreover, the medical world has utilized rats among other animals in carrying out various tests and also furthering their knowledge. These are some of the ways in which animals have been used in carrying out experimental research.

Thesis statement- why animals should be used for experimental testing.

Body

1. Animals should be used in experimental testing to advance scientific knowledge

I. The use of animals in scientific studies is essential in understanding the various dimensions of knowledge, especially in medicine.

II. Many medical breakthroughs have been made possible because of studies that have been carried out on animals.

III. Animals possess similarity to human beings in many aspects ranging from the tiniest cell compositions to more advanced organ functions.

2. Animals should be used in experimental testing to ensure human safety

I. Animals are dispensable during experimental tests, unlike humans.

II. The trial of new drugs can be detrimental to humans hence, an animal specimen is ideal.

III. Exposure to radiations is harmful to humans, therefore, animals can be used to study the effects of radiations.

3. Animals act as experimental models

I. The study of diseases and the development of vaccines have been made possible through animals models.

II. The development of the polio vaccine was made possible by using a monkey as an experimental model (National Research Council, 2004).

III. It is impossible to reproduce human subjects as experimental models.

Summary

I. Animals are good experimental models since they can be manipulated to suit the experiment

II. Animals should be used in experimental tests to ensure human safety.

III. Animals should be used in experimental tests to enable the advancement of scientific knowledge.

Conclusion- The above points will highlight why the use of animals in experimental studies should be encouraged
