Introduction

"Who will run the frog hospital?" It is a fascinating and insightful novel written by an American, Lorrie Moore, born in Glens Falls, New York, in 1957. It was published in 1994 by Knopf. This book flashbacks the middle age and adolescence life of Berie Carr, a successful photographer curator from upstate New York. Moore buys Mladenoff's drawing, which later inspires her to write the book. In this essay, I will focus on the engrossing description of Berie Carr and her friend Silsby Chaussee and some classroom concepts and theories that I will discuss in my paper.

Brief description of Berie Carr and Silsby Chaussee

In her novel “Who will run the frog hospital?” Moore describes Benoit-Marie Carr and Silsby’s adolescence and early life in the form of a flashback (childhood friendships). 15-year-old Carr is working in Storyland as a ticket seller while her best friend Silsby Chaussee mimics Cinderella. Their adolescent life is described as a bittersweet one as good and bad memories surround it. Their sweet life involves sneaking out at night to go to bars, hiking, smoking cigarettes, and hooking up with boys, while the bitter is when Silsby gets pregnant, and Carr has to steal money from her workplace for her friend's abortion. Physically, Silsby is plumper and pretty than Carr (Moore, 2021).

Classroom concepts and theories

Furthermore, some of the classroom concepts and theories that I would like to use in my paper include cognitive and behaviorist learning theories. Mental processes are essential in classroom learning (Dunn, 2021). Learners thinking and understanding are influenced by internal and external factors. Also, positive reinforcement brings out good behaviors in learners.

Conclusion

In conclusion, in "Who will run the frog’s hospital?" I learned about two characters (Benoit-Marie Carr and Silsby Chaussee) who have a wild adolescent life but later on, their friendship changes. Cognitive and behaviorism theories are also essential learning theories as they help students develop both behaviorally and mentally.

Josely, This novel sounds like a great pick for this assignment. I want to encourage you think about further ways to incorporate class terminology and material into your analysis as this is the biggest graded component of the final paper. While cognitive and behavioral theories are great, you'll also want to think about aspects of the characters' lives that are reflected in our class or textbook. For example, are there terms from the autonomy chapter that relate to a character's development? Perhaps a certain parenting style is relevant? See what you think and let me know if you want to talk more about this-- I'd be happy to.
