In the story, “who moved my cheese?” there are four characters including, Hem, Haw, Sniff and Scurry. Hem and Haw were two little people believed to have complex brains while Sniff and Scurry were mice that had good instincts. The four characters lived in a maze. A time came when they met cheese by chance in a cheese station. Hem and Haw got into comfort zone whereas Sniff and Scurry kept records of the volume of cheese frequently. A day came when Hem and Haw found the cheese missing. The cheese represented the good life of people. Moving of the cheese represented a change that happens in people’s life unexpectedly. Sniff and Scurry embraced change and sought a solution by looking for other cheese. Haw also accepted change after understanding that change was inevitable (Johnson, 2015).
However, Hem did not believe that there was no cheese and he spent days and a lot of energy looking for the cheese in the same cheese station. He had a negative attitude about accepting change and lack knowledge that change is not bad; the way of dealing with change determines everything. Sniff and Scurry acted wise and identified change early enough to cope up. They took everything at ease and were swift in finding other cheese. Haw can be considered to be smart than the others because he accepted his mistake and gave himself the motivation of changing regardless of receiving discouragement from Hem. The book applies to real life. It shows how some people deny change and start accusing others of their downfall. They become desperate because they feel that they might land in a worse situation than the one at hand. Denying change contributes significantly to frustrations and stress. Ham demonstrates a vital personality of not giving up even when things go haywire. We should anticipate change and adapt within short periods (Blanchard & Johnson, 1998).
I think I am similar to Haw. When I have a good enough life, I will be content with the status quo. However, when there is a problem in my life, I will go out to find an opportunity like him.
