Who Freed the Slaves? Vincent Harding vs. James McPherson Evidence Assessment (20 points)

You have been provided brief excerpts of two articles in which the authors, historians Vincent Harding and James McPherson, debate the question of who freed the slaves. Harding argues that the slaves freed themselves, while McPherson offers a more complicated view that argues that Lincoln deserves a great deal of credit for emancipation.
