Whitman-Walker Healthcare center was established more than forty years ago and has since then continued to provide an unwavering commitment to meeting the healthcare needs of the LGBT community in Washington, including several of them living with HIV. The hospital was initially found to serve the gay and lesbian community when such facilities were rare in the country (Regenstein, Trott, Williamson & Theiss, 2018). It grew faster to become the leading responder to HIV cases in Washington DC. The center provided pioneer medical and support services to people who were denied services by several healthcare establishments in the United States. The hospital has experienced exponential growth, and today like many other hospitals in the country, it boasts of having world-class medical professionals who provide a wide range of professional services. The hospital is among the most sought after healthcare facilities in the United States by qualified healthcare practitioners. I feel attracted to the organization and have the desire to work for it. This paper provides a comprehensive view of Whitman-Walker Health in DC.

What business model does your company use?

It is imperative to appreciate the fact that different business organizations use different business models depending on the products or services they offer. Many companies invest in business models that will generate the most revenue (Bryson, J2018). Furthermore, business models determine an organization’s marketing strategies that include branding and pricing. Therefore, like many other healthcare facilities in the United States, Whitman-Walker Health follows a business of offering a wide range of high-quality services to diverse groups (Regenstein et al., 2018). This model has enabled the hospital to experience an increase of patients that has translated into increased revenue since 2006. Providing a wide range of high-quality services is what drives this hospital. It is even more critical to the hospital to ensure its future success. The high-quality services have increased the number of patients which produced higher revenues for the hospital and enabled it to post positive financial results consecutively.

What are your organization's vision and mission?

For every business organization whether in the financial sector or health sector to succeed, it must have a compelling vision statement that expresses the essential features or core values of values and ideas that shape the business. Equally, a mission statement serves as the company’s guide to decision making (Bryson, J2018). Whitman-Walker Health’s vision is to engage all patients, including transgender patients seeking hormones, in primary health care at its Health Center with the objective of promoting their physical and emotional well-being (Regenstein et al., 2018). Elsewhere, its mission is to be the most recognized, culturally competent community health center that serves the greater Washington’s diverse urban community that includes people who face barriers to accessing care, and with particular expertise in LGBT and HIV care. Both the vision and mission statements have been instrumental in guiding the healthcare organization's decisions that have ensured that the communities served to remain satisfied. Its vision has enabled it to make decisions that align with its philosophy and its goals.

There is no doubt that the organization, vision, mission, and objectives have played an essential role in shaping its sustainable competitive advantage. For instance, the hospital has been able to meet the healthcare needs of almost everyone including the LGBT in the District of Columbia as well as other states such as Pennsylvania. Elsewhere, the company states that 2011 was its most successful year since it put more emphasis on the community by providing high-quality care that enabled it to reach greater heights (Regenstein et al., 2018). Equally, the hospital traces its sustainable competitive advantage from a diversified community that it cares for. This is because it cares for diverse cultures that include the transgender. It is the company’s vision that has enabled to provide healthcare services to different groups of people and ensured that their physical and emotional being is taken care of. Furthermore, its mission statement has enabled it to remain culturally competent when providing health care services to different cultures that include LGBT. This has played a greater part in shaping and sustaining its competitive advantage.

The three tests of a winning strategy can be used by a business organization to evaluate and gauge how good a strategy is. The three tests of a winning strategy include the goodness of fit, the competitive advantage test, and the performance test. All put together; a good business strategy must match with the company’s position, produce a sustainable competitive advantage and boost the organization’s performance. The company's strategy is providing a wide range of quality services to diverse cultures. This strategy is supported by the organization’s vision, mission, and objectives in the sense that its strategic choices are made with regard to the company’s values (Bryson, J2018). Elsewhere, the mission, vision and the objectives of the organization supports its strategy in the sense that they have produced a sustainable competitive advantage. This has enabled the company to have as many patients as possible. Finally, the company's vision, mission, and objectives support its business strategy in the sense that the company has been able to produce better financial results consecutively. This is because the company’s overall performance improved significantly and it has been able to receive many patients who have contributed to its impressive financial performance.

In summary, Whitman-Walker Health was able to provide pioneer medical and support services to people who were denied services by several healthcare establishments in the United States. The hospital continues to provide high-quality healthcare services to diverse groups that include those with HIV and the LGBT.
