“Where to invade next” SOC 101 Assignment

After we finish screening the documentary, “Where to Invade Next,” students 
 are required to submit a traditional paper, powerpoint presentation, YouTube video, poster project or other approved option that explains and analyzes 
 the social and cultural contrasts raised in the film.

Your commentary and analysis should clearly demonstrate your mastery of sociology concepts. Use definitions and explanations from our textbook and classroom discussions to support your thoughts, assessment, and explanations.

Prompt:
 Michael Moore visits nine countries. In each country he examines the difference between American society and the country he was visiting. 
 Your task is to examine 3-5 countries through the lens of Sociology.

1. Introduction: What counties from the film made the most impact 
 on you? e.g. which two (2) segments surprised you the most?

a. Use any 2-3 countries (and/or your own personal travel experience) 
 to examine the following concepts:

• Cultural Shock

• Cultural Relativism and Ethnocentrism.

b. Define the above terms (and then…)

c. Use examples from the film to illustrate and analyze these concepts.

• Powerpoint/Keynote/Prezi presentations should be ~17-20 slides and should include images or other media elements. Upload a PPT file or web link to CANVAS once you are done.

• YouTube Videos or other web-based submissions should be approximate 7-10min in length when it comes to meeting items 1-4 of them prompt above. An additional 5 minutes of creative elements is welcome but not required. Upload a PDF file to CANVAS with a link to your finished project once you are done.

• Poster or Art projects should include a brief written summary OR office hour meeting with Professor E to explain your project and discuss the Sociology of it. For posters, a three panel fold out display is recommended. Bring projects to my office (A100C) when you are done.
