When did you decide to become a teacher, and why did you choose this field?

I originally wanted to be a childhood art therapist. The closest college to my hometown that provided that degree was South in Mobile and I knew I was not a big city girl. I then toured UWA during the final months of my senior year and decided to pursue a teaching degree. I was blessed to have several teachers who I looked up to growing up and knew I would be following some amazing footprints.

Why do you want to teach at the ____ level?

I have always known that I liked “little” kids over “big” kids. I thrived in the Kindergarten classroom I was placed in during student teaching and went home crying every day during my time in 5th grade.

 Describe your teaching style.

My teaching style leans toward laidback, fun, crafty, and hands-on teachable moments that teach academic and life lessons without the students realizing it.

What interests do you pursue outside of the classroom?

Outside of the classroom, I am a reader, painter, wife and mom. I just started my 138th book in my 2022 challenge. I prefer to read mysteries and romantic comedies but enjoy supernatural, too.

What experience have you had with team-teaching? What is your opinion of it?

I do not have a lot of experience with team-teaching. This school year is the first time in many years that I have had the opportunity to team-teach and I have enjoyed sharing this time with her and being her mentor along the way. We work well together and that has made the school year fly by.

What do you want to be doing in five years?

January will begin my 19th year of teaching. My teaching career began at UWA Campus School. I am not sure what the future holds but I know this is exactly where I should have been. I still look forward to coming to work each day. I will turn 50 years old during my 25th year of teaching so there is plenty of time figure out my ending.
